Ranch Management Program at TCU Earns Bill King Award

Acknowledging the contributions to the North American ranching industry, the TCU Ranch Management program has been named the recipient of the 2016 W.A. “Bill” King Award for Excellence in Agriculture by the Fort Worth Farm and Ranch Club. Presented at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s annual Livestock Appreciation Day Luncheon the award brings notoriety to a business, individual or family that has significantly contributed to agriculture or the agribusiness industry. The luncheon will be held at noon, January 21 in the Round Up Inn at the Amon G. Carter Jr. Exhibit Hall.

“Our alumni and the accomplishments they’ve made in the ranching industry reflect the success of this program,” said the program’s Director, Kerry Cornelius. “Receiving this honor is a testament to them.”

In the 1950’s a group of ranchers were seeking a college to train ranch managers. One of the gentlemen, Milton Daniel, got the group a meeting with Texas Christian University Chancellor, McGruder Ellis Sadler. Chancellor Sadler liked the idea, thus the TCU Ranch Management Program was born. With a curriculum developed by a savvy group of progressive ranchers, the program’s popularity grew from its humble beginnings. With more than 1,400 graduates, the TCU Ranch Management program is arguably the most successful of its kind in the nation.

“The Fort Worth Farm and Ranch Club is proud to select the TCU Ranch Management program for the Bill King Award,” said organization President, Lauren Lovelace. “Successful ranchers are required to have a myriad of skills, thus this award recognizes the faculty and administration’s commitment to give their students a leg up in a challenging, but rewarding, industry.”
