Education - K-12
Fort Worth offers a wide range of educational resources - from pre-kindergarten to graduate school - to its growing work force and their families. The Fort Worth Independent School District’s (FWISD) Superintendent, Dr. Melody Johnson, gained national recognition in the same position in Providence, R.I., for developing an unprecedented environment of cooperation through her long-term systemic reforms.
The Fort Worth school district contains one hundred forty-four K-12 schools that have received numerous accolades and recognitions including the ‘What Parents Want’ award from SchoolMatch, a private firm that assists companies with relocation. It’s the seventh year the district received the award, and only 14 percent of the nation’s public school districts are recognized.
Within a decade, the FWISD schools have experienced an 833 percent increase in high-performing schools, going from just four to 59, showing improvements in all subjects. Thirty-two schools are poised to achieve recognized status based on the standards of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.
Due to its numerous educational opportunities and successes, many Fort Worth high school seniors stay in the Metroplex to further their education as well as enter the local work force and build their families in the area.
