2009 Chamber Day at the Speedway presented by Office Depot

Presented by Office Depot.

Engines revving, tires squealing and race cars thundering around the track. Chamber Day at the Speedway is an annual rite of spring where Fort Worth Chamber members and guests attend a luncheon at The Speedway Club, get up close and personal with race car drivers and enjoy exciting time trials that afternoon.

Q-Edge may come to AllianceTexas

The Fort Worth Chamber economic development staff was instrumental in hooking electronics assembly company Q-Edge for potential relocation to the AllianceTexas area. The company is expected to bring up to 500 jobs and result in economic impact of more than $700 million for the region. Its contracts are reported to be with such companies as Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Nokia, Cisco and Sony. Fort Worth City Council votes on the incentives package April 14.

Barnett Shale Expo: Living With a Neighborhood Gas Well

In January, upon recommendations from the gas drilling task force composed of neighborhood, community and industry representatives, the Fort Worth City Council passed a new drilling ordinance. Hear how this diverse group of community volunteers—from neighborhoods to energy industry representatives—arrived at a consensus and what it means to Fort Worth residents.  Then learn about the drilling process including drill-site selection, production times, the fraccing process, waste water and the new technologies being tested for disposal, noise abatement techniques, updated drill site maps and more.

Barnett Shale Expo: Barnett Shale Careers and Training

There are still jobs for people with real-world skills and now there are training programs developed in partnership with the energy industry. Learn from industry human-resource pros about energy-related careers and the training resources available.  College representatives will acquaint attendees with a range of industry-prescribed classroom, on-site and internet training programs that feature two-year oil and gas technology certification courses.  Also, hear about short-term outdoor and in-class training programs for roustabout training.

Barnett Shale Expo: Natural Gas Pipeline Construction and Operation

As new pipelines are installed in the urban areas of the Barnett Shale, residents need to know about issues such as key terms in leases with pipeline companies, what to expect during the construction phase and how their property will look when the work is done. The session will touch on the safeguards in place to reduce risk, and the agencies involved in developing guidelines to protect pipelines and the communities in which they operate.

Barnett Shale Expo: Ray Perryman – UPDATED

The 2009 Perryman update examines the overall economic impact of Barnett Shale activity by county, provides a perspective on the significance of energy activity to the overall economy and evaluates the long-term effects of the Barnett Shale on the region based upon existing leases and other relative information. From jobs, taxes, retail sales to sectoral benefits by industry sector, the study will reveal how much the energy industry has impacted the communities of the Barnett Shale. This year’s update will also take a look at how the Barnett Shale regional economy would have fared without gas exploration during the current economic downturn.
