The Chamber's Economic Outlook breakfast
covered topics from transportation to politics to Gen Y. That's a
pretty intense way to kick off the morning.
Above (L to R): Economic Outlook speakers Tim Baldwin, URS, Jason Dorsey,
the Gen Y Guy, and Dr. Alan Saxe, UTA.

No Kidding: Gal pal Marilyn at Atmos Energy was reading from
Hawaii about Mr. B’s fascination with the Dallas Mavericks and the
deprived state of son NoBGood’s spring break
and has the perfect remedy. “Why don’t you and NoBGood
take two people with you to the
Boston Celtics-Mavericks game March 20?” she asked. Duh, why not. If you
want to see Jason, Josh, Dirk, a great game from fantastic seats and get free
day-trading tips from the NoBGooder,
then enter to join us.
|
Grape fest: When Mr. B is out on the town wining and dining with Mary Ann
or Ginger, Zambrano Wine Cellar is a must-stop delight. Cef makes every
guy feel like Hef, with great tastes and great service. If you haven’t
experienced the fine selection of wines, the wonderful atmosphere and
knowledgeable service, then try to win this
tasting of wines and cheeses for four people.
|
Take this prize to the Bank: Gal pal Billye
Poston, a consultant for JoS.A.Bank men’s
clothing stores, lost a daughter and we gained a
giveaway. Sounds fair to Mr. B. Billye’s daughter
Stephanie is off to New York for a new life, but she
was Billye’s seatmate at symphony concerts in Irving
or Arlington. Billye was too forlorn to go alone, so
we’ve got
four tickets –two winners get two each -- to
either the Los Colinas Symphony or the Arlington
Symphony; they must be used by May.

A Few Good Men: As a kid, Little B spent down
time playing dress up …as a marine with those wired
helmets. Former neighbor and present Lockheed
big gun Eric Fox refused to lose any war games in
our “neighborly” street battles. Eric is offering up
a United States Marine Corp
F-35 Lightning II Desktop Model of your very
own.

Co-producer Red Sanders of Red Productions
will world premiere the film Karma Police during the
2008 AFI Dallas International Film Festival March 27
to April 6. How cool is that! Karma Police was
filmed entirely in Dallas and Fort Worth with mostly
local cast and crew.

Sharp wit: Always quick with a quip and
celebrating his promotion to Vice President, Reagan
Ferguson of Summit Press offered Newz-E-Letter
gift certificates to Sharper Image to give away.

Club and pick up tips on how to run your business
better. The finalists are:

What a CROCK! The Fort
Worth Zoo has opened
Crocodile Café, a food court
that features tasty options from
eateries such as the Zoo’s
traditional Burger King
restaurant, Rio Mexican Grille
and the Ice Cream Shop.

Clever thinking: Weir SPM’s
Laura Pelland, who wishes to
remain anonymous, wanted to win
the silver sterling jewelry from
KO Trading last week
because it would give her an
excuse to “buy something new to
wear with the new jewelry!”

it’s not necessary for All to know?

Movin’ on up:
BusinessWeek’s ratings of the top U.S.
undergraduate business programs shows TCU’s
Neeley School of Business at No. 32, up seven
spots from last year. There's a Business After Hours
at Neeley next Thursday and everyone who attends
will get a free MBA. And don't worry about parking;
it's spring break and the iPod Gen Yers have
scattered.
|
Death by chocolate: A hearse
passed the Neon on I-30 Monday. That
really is Life Passing You By.
Mr. B glanced left and saw his
reflection in the hearse’s window.
Almost like he was ridin’ inside.
|
The next John Wayne? They’re
gonna put me in the movies, gonna
make a big star out of Mr. B. That’s
right, pardner. The Texas Cowboy
Hall of Fame Museum is filming
“A Day in the Life of Cowboy B”
starring 8-Time PRCA world champion
calf roper and Texas Cowboy Hall of
Fame inductee Roy Cooper. You can
meet Roy March 20 beginning at 6
p.m. at a free event at the Texas
Cowboy Hall of Fame. You also can
tour the facility. If it’s free and
about B, he’ll be there.
|
This love looks different: Mr.
B’s parents (yes, still alive, and there
are brothers C, D, E and F, and sister
K) went to a wedding this month for an
83-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman.
He's rich, and ill. She is going to care
for him, and when he dies, she will be
taken care of AND get his social
security benefits. It’s all in a pre-nup,
too.
|
New members: Old friend Catherine
Simpson (Women’s Business Center,
Entrepreneur Expo) has resurfaced as a
Chamber member and regional hotshot with
Prudential. And there’s another
Mike Berry in town. This one’s not with
Hillwood, but with RENSCO
oil well directional drilling in
Benbrook.
|
Pat on the …: During a
Chamber seminar last week, Jason
Dorsey, the Gen Y Guy, said Gen
Y’ers need frequent feedback and
reinforcement. “If all you’re
doing is an annual review, you
need to change the name of it to
“exit interview.”

 |
8-balling:
Am-Bass-Adores will be
pooling resources and cutting
ribbons at Universal
Billiards March 18. Also on
tap this coming week are
openings at Quantum
Mechanical Services and Jake
Richter’s new Edward Jones
office at Mallick Tower. All
ribbon cutting and
Business
After Hour photos can be viewed
online.

|
Lunch. Learn? Mr. B will be
speaking at the April 2 Lunch and Learn
at Blue Mesa. It’s not too late
to sign up. B is sure there will be
lunch; not sure what you might learn.
This was originally scheduled March 19,
but Mr. B will be in Austin accepting
Newsletter of the Year award from Gov.
Perry, who has time for this because he
no longer is campaigning for
presidential contender who no longer is
running.
|
Stuffed: The 1,200 people that
bought tickets to the Tarrant Area
Food Bank’s Empty Bowls event helped
to raise $117,000, which provides enough
food for 585,000 meals.
|
Crowne Plaza Colonial
tournament is going avante garde with a
Colonial Girl blog
by Kelly Webster of sports radio
fame. Her Phil Mickelson
interview is …well, very
different, and worth a read.
|
 |
Not so small: Former Chamber
Small Business of the Year
winner Huckabee & Associates
is big-timing it with
Tarleton State University,
teaming up to conduct research
on educational facilities and
their impact on student
learning. Huckabee, an
architectural design firm, will
donate almost $130,000 during
the next two years.
