Tour de force: Last week, Newz-E-Letter offered up a tour of JerryWorld in Arlington. The only place in town with more firepower is Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and there’s no gal pal in town with more firepower and fireworks than Katie Shagman. She’s arranged for a winner and up to four friends to get a tour of Lockheed and because Katie is Ms. JSF, you’re gonna get the lowdown on the greatest fightin’ falcon in the U.S. military.

And the Rockets’ red glare: Talk corvettes, and Innovative Developer Inc. President and CEO Glen Hahn is more than attentive. Talk golf, and he’s probably on his Blackberry. But as former chairman and still-strong supporter of the Day Resource Center, a day-time refuge for the homeless, Hahn and IDI purchased a foursome for the nonprofit’s golfing fundraiser May 8 at Hawks Creek Golf Course. It’s hosted by former Dallas Cowboy Rocket Ismail and we’re looking for three to fill out a foursome.

Drive for show, putt for dough: Spring has sprung, which means the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial is next month and tanning booths are crowded and margarita machines are out of hibernation and The ColonialGolfGirl blogger is sharpening her wit. What fun! Peter and Dennis at Colonial want to get your head in (Colonial) gear with these two “Serious Golfer” accessory packages, which include a golf cap, golf towel, putter cover and valuables pouch.

PICTURE OF THE WEEK

Two new public servant chiefs were introduced to Chamber members last week at the Combined Area Council luncheon at the Fort Worth Club. Pictured here are Rudy Jackson, Jr., Fort Worth Fire Chief; Bob Parmalee, chairman of The T, luncheon sponsor; Jeff Halstead, Fort Worth Police Chief; and Captain Billy Cordell, Central Field Operations and past chairman of the Central Area Council.

Gallery of good eats: Good service, quality offerings and friendly folks are a winning combination in any economy, and that truth is evident at the year-old Gallery Art Café in Fort Worth South. The place is hopping at lunch and Doris invites your party of four to come in and see what all the excitement is about. You’ll get any breakfast or lunch offering and a drink of your choice. Mr. B’s favorite is the Lainie’s Choice, which is an espresso with almond rocco, chocolate and kahlua flavorings, and whipped cream.

Ski patrol: Summer’s near and if you need water skiing lessons, you might hire Mike Clemons of Fort Worth Carpet. He was a champion water skier as a kid, even performing during the world famous Cypress Gardens shows.

Tender(loin) moments: David Rotman, who celebrated 20 years of Café Aspen on April 17, was reminiscing while perusing his first menus, which were one-page printouts of his own computer design. A full tenderloin dinner was $9.50. He offered them last week for just $12.95.

He’s nutty: Trying to win the recent pecan giveaway, Bobby Williams of Valley Solvents & Chemicals, wrote: “You’d be a shell of a guy if you let me win!”

She’s engaging: It's just a coincidence, but Casandra Brown, the "Engagement Manager" for {algo+rhythm}, a digital media agency, recently got engaged herownself. So what is an Enagagement Manager?  "I suppose it’s somewhat of a balance between salesman, strategist and account manager," Casandra said.

Southern belles: The Chamber’s South Area Council’s Adopt-A-School is South Hills High School and the SAC is looking to get prom dresses donated so that every girl that wants to go to the prom will have a nice dress to wear.  Mr. B got the ex-Ms. B’s wedding dress out of the garbage, cleaned it and sent it over. If you have something similar, contact Pennie Blossom at pblossom@fortworthchamber.com. The council also has secured TCU football coach Gary Patterson, sans prom dress, as a speaker during its July 30 luncheon.

Caution flag was out: When race car driver Ryan Newman was delayed by high winds and could not land at Alliance for his Chamber Day Texas Motor Speedway appearance earlier this month, attendees were treated to an impromptu Q&A with track owner Bruton Smith and Mayor Mike. Newman arrived after lunch and still did his thing for those who could hang around. Video from the TMS event is posted at the Chamber website.

Miss Happy: Jaci Coan, a broker/owner with RE/MAX Trinity, signs every email “It’s a blessed life.” Speak for yourself, Jaci. Walk in Mr. B’s shoes for awhile.

The Muir, the merrier: Former controller and interim GM Peggie Muir is now just GM at The City Club. Former top clubber Teresa Anderson is staying at home with her two daughters.

Alexander the Great: Alexander Chandler of same-name Realty company celebrated his one-year corporate anniversary and says during their anniversary month, realtors set a new high for homes under contract.  Alexander credits his “awesome advertising.”

Kudos: Lynne (Sweetheart) Swihart of the Balcom Agency, was honored last week with the Silver Medal Award, the highest American Advertising Federation honor given at the local level. She can Twitter for Mr. B any day.

Attention, contractors: The following is a special announcement from The Chamber that is must run, and not for Mr. B to make fun. The Trinity River Vision Authority will be hosting a workshop that will provide interested contractors a sneak peek at contracts that will be coming up for bid in the next 6-12 months. It is Thursday, April 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the Trinity River Vision Authority Office, 307 W. Seventh Street, Suite 100, Fort Worth.

Nonprofits, read on: This public service announcement is brought to you by The City Club, which wants to give away 25 boxed lunches a month to nonprofits every month this year to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Click here to send Amy Shackelford a note of your organization’s interest.

What’s up doc? Is your doctor taking appointments online? Now you can get a text that the doc will see you and wait 40 minutes instead of 60.

Word of mouth: This economy sure has begat a plethora of coaches/consultants and spa facilities. BTW, those are our two new words of the week. One new business is Heavenly Holly Houston’s Alleia Spa and Body Contouring at 6612 N. Riverside Drive. It will have a Chamber ribbon cutting April 29.

Anti-aging: Mr. B follows fellow ‘B’ man Big Bird on Sesame Street Twitter and received a tweet Monday. BB wrote that he was looking a little yellow and had dropped into Lighten Years Away Medical Spa over on Bellaire Drive South for a body makeover. Mr. B went over, saw Jodie Moore and now he's lookin’ 55 instead of 60.
