Binion’s for the minions: Mr. B’s twin brother, Mr. C, who always has plenty of ADvice, was throwing horseshoes recently with some Lena Pope Home party animals and got clanged by an errant toss from a guy named Brad Poston. Poston apologized profusely and wanted to know what he could do to assuage his guilt. Where do you work? Mr. C asked, his lawyer’s name on the tip of his lips. When Brad said he was a honcho, the closest thing to a Jack Binion at the Horsheshoe Casino in Bossier City, Mr. C scored for Newz-E-Letter readers. In exchange for the clang, we’ve got a two-night stay and one fabulous dinner for two at Binion’s Horseshoe Steakhouse.
Cool for summer: Gal pal Eakita Minor of Suez Energy Resources North America suggested Mr. B needed a break. And she provided a really cool present for his hike through Trinity Park -- a Suez logo-ed, blue compact speaker cooler that you can plug your radio or MP3 player into and listen to music while keeping your drinks cool. In Trinity Park, everyone was saying, “Hi, Suez”, which was OK because this prize is Su-weet.

(2) Cool for summer: Nobody does summer better than Pulliam Pools and it is back with its second annual, fantastic Pool Partee Package, filled with everything you need to entertain outdoors. They pooled resources and put together a basket filled with outdoor dishes, cups, a beach towel, koozies and a fabulous table centerpiece.
Mr. B Gaetano Donizetti: A heartbroken Mr. B wrote the opera Lucia when he was spurned by a woman forced to marry a man she didn’t love. And as part of it’s grande Fort Worth Opera Festival (May 16-June 8), the Fort Worth Opera has decided to showcase Lucia. Fortunately for you, Mr. B wasn’t available to sing because he doesn’t know Italian, so FW Opera folks went with two of the industry’s hottest singers, Stephen Costello and Elizabeth Futral. Maestro Erin Madden Ramirez la de da’d her way to the ticket office and secured two orchestra level tickets to the May 25 matinee performance.
Run for Life: Mr. B has signed up to donate his organs when he dies -- some say he does every Wednesday with some crummy jokes. But seriously, B heard about LifeGift a few years back, which facilitates organ and tissue donations, and signed up to be a donor. Son NoBGood said it was cool as long as any leftover money was going to him. To raise awareness, LifeGift has its Second Chance Run this Saturday. There's a 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk and we have four registrations.
Learn me: Main Events’ loss is school kids’ gain. Sales Manager supreme Tammy Todd is leaving at the end of the month to get her teaching certificate.

Sundance is a gas: Chesapeake Energy has secured the mineral lease rights for Sundance Square and will drill for natural gas under the 40 acres downtown from three pad sites.
Modern diet: Got this missive – “I have changed my name to Toni Allison from Toni Booth. Congrats are in order! I tell people I lost 185 pounds…divorced, yea!”Toni also has been promoted from Public Education Specialist to Business & Community Development Coordinator at the city’s Business Assistance Center.

Another Chamber benefit: With the rising price of EVERYTHING except Mr. B’s Chamber pay (C’mon Miserly!), coupons are in vogue, even doubled in some places. You can double your Chamber fun by going to the website and printing off a coup from the new Member-To-Member Discount Coupon benefit. Check it out before you write that next check. Check out the listing of the members already participating at fortworthchamber.com under What's New.
Feeling just Super…poor: Actually, Mr. B isn’t even receiving 39 cents an hour from the Chamber any more. Have decided to put it in escrow and save enough to join Roger the Dodger and Ross Jr. as one of 15 members in the new $1 Million Club of the North Texas Super Bowl committee. The committee is trying to get the new Cowboys Stadium as part of a regular Super Bowl site rotation.

Cut ‘n shoot: When he’s not exhibiting at The Modern Art Museum (through May 18) American artist Martin Puryear seems to have a side business. Puryear Custom Pools will have a ribbon cutting May 20 at its 2200 Cantrell Sansom Rd. location. On May 15, scissor swipers will be at too-cool The Bridge Boutique at 9108 Camp Bowie West, which is where Mr. B shops because it has women’s designer clothes at non-designer prices. Chamber ribbon cutting photos can be seen at our website.
Count me out: hireMAX has launched a Career Staffing service for recruiting personnel who make $50,000 or more per year. Mr. B doesn’t qualify so can’t be recruited. hireMax says it’s a “new and innovative (is there any other) approach to finding top-notch staff.” Owner Norm Bobay says it has been tested for three years with phenomenal success (is there any other).
Out of ink: Mr. B once worked at the Star-Telegram. He left and wasn’t missed. But the voice of Arlington – O.K. Carter – and the voice of the people –ombudsman David House – are leaving and will be missed. It will be sad they no longer are addressing the masses.
Bell of the ball: Before your New Year’s Eve partying, you might think about an early celebration during the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl at TCU’s Amon Carter Stadium. It will be played that day.
Name change: High School Sports The Magazine was too general a name to trademark, so beginning in June, franchisees will be called Vype (varsity hype?).
Sea-worthy: Before her “walk the stage” graduation ceremony last week, Brooke McNabb, a chemistry major with a 3.9 GPA, staged her own underwater graduation ceremony, receiving her honors regalia in the Texas Wesleyan pool. She had earned a minor in scuba. Scuba? At Texas Wesleyan? Brooke also played on the softball team and had a summer scuba internship in Grand Cayman.

By the Grace of …: Slight delay in the opening of Adam Jones’ Grace restaurant (probably September) street-side at the Jacobs Carter Burgess building. Innovative Developers, Inc. is doing the construction work.
Blow out the candles: Probably not the kind of 50th birthday present it wanted, but Casa Manana’s board is looking for a replacement for Denton Yockey, President and Executive Producer. After 10.5 years at Casa, he’s exiting stage north in August for a theater in Kansas City. Break a leg, Denton.
At the top, bar none: Harris, Finley & Bogle¬ managing shareholder Roland Johnson has been elected to serve as president-elect during the 2008-09 bar year. He will serve as president during 2009-10.
A Colonial idea: When are golf balls going to have GPS?

Your name, please: Mr. B is a very popular brand name thanks to you loyal readers, but what if you had to promote a name such as Bruce or ADvice. Yuck, and double yuck. Those are tough ones. Well, Dale Berkebile can help, and he will talk for free (talk is cheap) about branding your company name at the May 21 Small Business Council Breakfast at the Residence Inn Marriott. It's sold out, but come anyway because there might be some no-shows.
Colonial IQ: During next week's Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial golf tourney, players and their families eat every meal free. Caddies get free breakfast, courtesy of Colonial Country Club. Players drive Cadillacs. Monday night, sponsors and players will be entertained by Travis Tritt at Billy Bob's Texas. Thursday night, they get a private, sneak preview of the new Indiana Jones movie. CBS, which telecasts the tourney, will have 300 production people in town for up to 10 days. TV honcho Lance Barrow lives in Colleyville, is a Colonial member and says downtown Fort Worth, the Stockyards, TCU and the Fort Worth Zoo will be featured during the telecasts.
Leonard links: Eleven-time PGA golf tour champion Justin Leonard said he will be teaching a kids clinic Monday at Colonial, but will stay at his home course in Dallas Tuesday to practice "to save on gas."
