A Bail(ey)out: Word has gotten out that Mr. B eats just one meal a day. Miserly and marvelous marketing maven Liesl Gray at Bailey's Prime Plus decided to invite Mr. B for a luxurious lunch on a day she knew he had a Chamber dinner function. So she ate a tantalizing Thai salad and B had...coffee. Good coffee, too, but not as good as the Bailey's bone-in rib eye that the Star-Telegram's Christopher Kelly rated a 10 during a recent blind taste test. Bailey's has it all: a private dining/meeting room, steaks to salivate over, sinful sweet potatoes, outrageous four-cheese lobster macaroni and -- for the prospective Ms. B -- its own spiked ketchup to slobber over the jumbo onion rings and steakhouse fries. What you can have is this $100 gift card.
This is phat! It's a small world...and getting smaller, thanks to Medi Weight Loss Clinic. Mr. B met walking endorsement and boss lady Jana Howell at a Getting to Know Your Chamber event. She wanted to do a giveaway and referred me to Denise Cook, a former PR pusher and still B buddy. We wrote, we chatted and Denise cooked up a free initial consultation with a team of physicians and medical professionals. The consult includes a comprehensive blood panel, physical, EKG, weight/body/fat analysis, supplements, appetite suppressant, Vitamin B injections and a new patient starter kit. |

Congratulations to the Amon Carter Museum of American Art for receiving the Chamber's Annual Spirit of Enterprise Award. Accepting the award on behalf of the museum was Andrew Walker (left) presented by former Chamber Chair Jeff King, J.P. Morgan (center) Emcee Susan Halsey, Jackson Walker, L.L.P. is at right. Take a moment to see the outstanding Amon Carter video shown at the Annual Meeting, and photos of who else was there.. |

Speaking of fat: You could Blame It On Gravity. Alternative country band Old 97s did and if band members are not Hit By a Train, they will be strumming and humming their hits Sunday night during the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s Concerts in the Garden Summer Music Festival. Bobalicious Barb bamboozled the box office and got us a voucher for four lawn loungers.
Fill the house: Friday night is the annual Pick a Cause. Because. concert at Casa Manana, which benefits 12 local nonprofits. Pop Rock band Gin Blossoms with special guest, The Beat Daddies, are the performers and Sam Hulse at Higginbotham has provided two sets of two tickets. Idle minds probably are wondering whatever happened to former Texas Ranger David Hulse.
Book a meeting: Kforce's Josh Edwards has a unique way of staying in front of clients and prospects...he sends books.
This Price could be right: Congrats to July 12 Fort Worth Mayor-to-be Betsy Price. Mr. B likes Bs in leadership positions. (Especially Big Boss Bill.) Her fiscal responsibility and customer service resonated with voters. Hope she can save enough dollars so we can celebrate our All-American City status, one of only 10 cities so honored. Super Bowl and All-American City successes are wonderful going-away recognition for Rosie and Mike Moncrief.
Real impact: Ryan Cormier of Ratio Digital was so informative at last week’s Impact Your Business breakfast that Mr. B is going to break a cardinal rule of his 13 editors and list the link to his presentation. Happy Googling...http://www.slideshare.net/ratiodigital/web-presentation-8303286
Officer, I was only doing 81: Greasing some wheels here with a shout out for Fort Worth Police pal Billy Cordell. Movin’ on up from Captain to Major.

Just desserts: Mr. B hopes Dannon remains the sponsor of the Chamber’s Annual Meeting. The strawberry yogurt panna cotta in a chocolate shell with mixed berry sauce the Worthington Renaissance Fort Worth Hotel created was astounding. Mr. B has the recipe if you’d like it.
Just wondering: Any boys named Dirk born this week?
Name game: Greg (not the Attorney General) Abbott is with new Chamber member Zenith Roofing after years in the insurance industry. “Maybe (the other Greg) will run for governor and help me even more with networking,” our Greg said. “Of course, if he ends up like some politicians, I may have to change MY name!” |
The kids are all right: The World Championship for the American Junior Paint Horse Association starts Friday and the schedule sounds more like a cool summer camp. Ice cream parties, golf cart painting, dog races, live bands and more. A competition might break out, too, with nearly 1,300 entries.
Fish or cut bait: Through the Wormhole, the Wednesday night TV series starring Morgan Freeman, is written and produced by Geoffrey Sharp, son-in-law of Fort Worth Opera's Suzy Williams.
Running With Scissors: Next week, Am-Bass-Adorables will be ribbon cutting Tuesday at Sandler Training, 3851 N.E. Loop 820, Ste. 110, and Wednesday at Lucky Strike Lanes, 2845 W. 7th St. Photos from many Chamber ribbon cuttings can be seen here.
A Piece of Work: Not sure if owner Deanna Boaz is talking about the artwork or the lushes that have had too much wine with their brushes. Either way, her A Piece of Work studio sounds like fun, fun, fun. Friends gather for pints and paints, with a little stroking from the professional artistic types.
Good things come in threes, too: Marcia Schmitz, Northwest ISD Education Foundation, is getting her daughter back in Fort Worth after six years in Kansas City; she is retiring at the end of this month and she and her hubby are to be first-time grandparents in December. |

One last Denver nugget: A Lockheed Martin “source” says Lt. Col. Henry John Deutschendorf, Sr., an Air Force pilot who set three speed records in the B-58 Hustler bomber, was stationed at Air Force Plant No. 4, which Lockheed Martin rents, while his son, the soon-to-be John Denver, was in high school at Arlington Heights.
Thanks a lot, boss: For the 6th straight year, boss Miserly Mistress DID NOT nominate Mr. B for the Williamson-Dickie American Worker of the Year. For the first time in 19 years, you can vote for the winner on the company’s Facebook page.
Splitsville: Family Law attorney Kelly Decker of Decker Jones is wondering if the recent drama involving Weiner, Schwarzenegger and Edwards doesn’t illustrate the importance of a carefully crafted pre-marital agreement.
Bronc & bill bustin’: Keely Appleton watched world champion husband Dave ride bulls for years. Now she has a close-up view of boss Chris Harris’ bi-annual rough ride in the Texas Senate. Dave, btw, is an “education specialist” at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie.
More fuel for gas: If anybody was worried about XTO’s future after ExxonMobil’s purchase, you needn’t. Exxon bought two small Pennsylvania oil & gas companies operating in the Marcellus Shale and put them under XTO’s direction. It also is sending XTO peeps to Poland to oversee shale work there.
Foreigner in charge: Outgoing Chamber Chairman Jeff King of J.P. Morgan giddily pointed out that the past five chairmen have attended TCU or UTexas. Now up, though, is a Regis University Ranger -- Dan Berce of GM Financial. Regis, about 12,000 students, is in Denver.
No jet lag: He has been a pilot for 25 years, yet Gary Chenoweth of Professional Energy Management gets refreshers with a simulator every nine months.
Security at home: Dana Milyo and hubby Kevin both applied for a job with ADT. Dana was selected and Kevin is now a stay-at-home Dad. "I am more suited for work outside the home,” Dana said. “I enjoy the interaction with people, and thrive on the excitement of sales. Kevin has the better qualities for staying home! It's a little non-conventional, but it really works for us." |
