Yakking with GAC: Randy Galloway, Grand Prairie proud but livin’ large in Aledo, is THE local superstar of sports writing and broadcasting, with reporting/columnists stints at the Dallas Morning News and now at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He also hosts Galloway and Company daily during afternoon drive time on the radio. And thanks to Peggie and Monica and Amy at the posh City Club of Fort Worth, Galloway and Company—in this case, fellow columnist Jim (Revo) Reeves – are going to talk sports during lunch with seven Newz-E-Letter readers June 30 (this Tuesday) from 11:30-1 p.m. You can talk Rangers and race cars, Cowboys and Cuban, Modano and Mind That Bird, TCU and Tiger … whatever revs your engine. A lavish lunch and free parking are courtesy of host City Club.
Filled to the Gill: Most folks are paying $150 for these tickets, unless of course you are model/spokesperson Richard Maxwell of The T. But how would you like to see the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium up close and personal and help Gill Children’s Services celebrate its 30 on the 30 anniversary party? Amazin’ Amanda Stallings secured the seats rights for this July 30 event. The festivities begin with a VIP pre-“game” party in the stadium’s exclusive field-level club. Then it’s on to the field, right at a 30-yard line, where the Dallas Cowboys staff has organized fun things, including a punt/pass/kick competition, behind-the-scenes stadium tours (including locker room and suites), a taste-of-the-NFL, buffet-style dinner and, as important, an open bar.

The wheels on the bus go…: Traffic around the Fort Worth Zoo can be well…a zoo…at certain times of the year and simmering in line during summer Saturdays can leave you squirrelly. Here’s some marketing magic from T marvel Richard Maxwell -- skip the traffic and parking hassles because the T is donating three sets of day passes for four riders to sashay in the Safari Shuttle from the downtown ITC to the Zoo. This is good any Saturday through October 31.
Pop quiz: Horror of horrors, we’re starting out with a little quiz for this giveaway. Mr. B’s favorite lines come from Chiffon: “Yeah, well, we're on a split shift.” and Ronette: “Yeah! We went to school ’til fifth grade, then we split!” Ha, ha, ha. The story is about a down-and-out, skid-row floral assistant who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Guess the title and you’ve won a family four-pack to Casa Mañana’s opening-night performance at Bass Performance Hall July 7.
Lost in translation: Beca Kubes, 4-month bride of EdwardJones financial consultant Greg Kubes, speaks five languages, and when suave Greg first approached her in Mexico City, his opening line was “puedo comprar un trago,” which translates to “My family owns a jewelry store."

This just in: If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come
from morons?

LISTEN TO ME!!!! Here’s what audiences remember most about a speaker, according to Jim Cross of CrossGroup Inc. management consultants – words (7 percent), voice (38 percent) and body language (57 percent). CrossGroup partner Mark Cook is Friday’s Gold Member breakfast speaker.
Kudos 1: Andre Johnson, Special Projects Manager for the Project WISH program (Homeless Initiative) of Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County, was honored with the Enhancement of Customer Service Award by the national association. His work with the homeless population in Tarrant County has changed the lives of many individuals.
Kudos 2: Darlene Ryan, executive director of TECH Fort Worth, has been selected as one of just 15 national board members for the National Business Incubator Association.
Kudos 3: The Covey Restaurant and Brewery won five medals with the six beers it entered in the L.A. International Beer Competition. L.A.-living daughter MisBehavin’ says she was a verrrry happy judge.
Cowboys & culture: Here are some things you may not have heard during Cowboys owner Jerry Jones talk to Chamber members last week, especially if you weren’t there:
- First Lady Gene Jones had a hand in selecting the stone and marble that graces entrances to the stadium.
- Jerry tried to buy into the Miami Dolphins, then the San Diego Chargers at the age of 22.
- Tarrant Countians bought 5 percent of tickets when the stadium was in Irving. Now that the stadium is “home,” we’ve bought a staggering 44 percent.
- When Jerry bought the team in 1989, it was losing $1 million a month.
- Cowboys Stadium could have been built for $850 million. The other $365 million is what Jerry calls the “wow factor.”
- According to Jerry: “Next to the White House, Cowboys Stadium will be the most visible building in the United States.”

Ring of Honor: Cindy Love and Trisha Harrell of Turnkey Project Services waited around after Jerry Jones’ talk and snared a very special picture with him. Here is Cindy’s version: “I asked him to make sure the Super Bowl ring was in the picture, so he took it off and gave it to me to wear! After the picture, I walked off jokingly saying ‘See ya later.’ He was a great sport and said he would see me later! I gave him his ring back and then he gave me a hug!”
Who was that masked photographer? A photo credit in the Star-Telegram under a picture of Dallas Cowboys Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones and Wade Phillips read Vernon Bryant. Is Southwest Bank’s Vernon Bryant moonlighting?

50% clearance sale: Clint Sanders is a business relationship specialist for Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. He sells comprehensive physical exams for executives. He did mention –and took some ribbing -- that during June there was a “special” on heart scans; we’re assuming June is a good month to schedule your heart attack. July’s special is a two-fer scan on kidneys.
Tahiti? Barbados? Paris?: Tiffany S. Kruse, assistant manager, Human Resources at Neiman Marcus, probably has recruited the latest In Circle member. She’s marrying Chris Brewster in a destination wedding during March 2010.
Anniversary analysis: Partners Carolyn Raab and Eric Wang were born in June and celebrated the anniversary of The Bridge Boutique this month. That’s a lot of celebrating. Carolyn was asked what she learned about her first year in business and her responses are good for anyone in business:
- You must love what you do to have your own business because that is what you will be doing day and night if you want to succeed.
- Excuses do not exist when you own a business.
- There is always something more to do.
- Relationships mean everything!!!!
- I can learn something from everyone if I listen.

Looking wealthy: A financial planner says she is trying to fatten up so she will give off the perception that she has invested well and can do the same for you. She could be fatter, funner and fitter if she joined 24-Hour Fitness at 2701 Halloran. Am-Bass-Adorables are there today for a ribbon cutting. Tomorrow, they are at Colonial Park Apartments at 1800 Rogers Road.
Incongruous: No, it’s not the word of the day, but just the thought that stellar honky tonk Billy Bob’s Texas has a Director of Social Networking—Kyle Smith. Kyle is responsible for Twitter-ing, Facebook-ing, and MySpace-ing. Marketing maestro Princess Pam says, “it's become an incredible communication tool for our concerts and for reaching the demo that is interested in bachelor and bachelorette parties.”
Ad-libbing: Tomorrow’s Money Works program for small business execs focuses on marketing/advertising and PR. If you’re in that field and you want to share your knowledge and market yourself, then be at the Marriott Residence Inn-Cultural District at 9 a.m. We’ll include you in the discussion.
Busing made easy: The T has unveiled a new website with the help of Concussion, and included are step-by-step directions on riding the bus. Here are the Cliff Notes: Walk up steps, insert money, sit down in available spot, stare out window, get out at correct stop.
Great hook-up: Looking for a job in aviation? Might we suggest a luncheon appointment with Valerie White, the recruiting manager for Global Contract Professionals. The same company owns The Vault Restaurant and she might wrangle free food, too.
Special birthday: Today is MomB’s 80th. Please don’t hold birthing Mr. B against her. She’s a great lady valiantly fighting Stage 4 cancer the past 16 months. Happy birthday, mom!
