Georgia on my mind: Mr. B was chatting up his cooking career with Food Fantastiks Robbie Tawil and Marketing Maven Amy Connell from the Renaissance Worthington and Robbie, the food director/manager/guru, was trying his darndest not to laugh. He didn't want to start another Dead Sea War. When he got up off the floor, he suggested Mr. B attend a Vidalias Southern Cuisine cooking class AND lunch for 20 that he would offer up to Newz-E-Letter readers from 1-4 p.m. on September 22nd. Robbie says we'll start with Mr. Chef's selection of a southern dish. Mr. Chef will provide all the ingredients, and then there will be (washed) hands-on preparation by us participants. It will be cooked, then served. Are you famished for fun, fun, fun?
Fun at the museum: Son NoBGood was seen at The Stayton at Museum Way recently, checking it out as a place for dear old dad when NoB's coup wins him the B Mansion. The Stayton is magnificent and the advertising shows it to be a place like no other. Happy people. Active people. Doing fun things. And we know why. It's all those $100 gift certificates they are buying to WineStyles across the street. We've got one as a gift from the Stayton folks, and we'll drink to that.
Gas of a giveaway: You think you've been hit by higher gas prices? How about our buds at Super Shuttle/ExecuCar? The value of this giveaway triples just about every day. We've got a round-trip, airport transfer on SuperShuttle for up to 10 people from the same pick-up/drop-off point. If you don't have 9 friends, maybe you can talk them into delivering your bags somewhere instead and save the airline charges for that.

Bill Meadows, recently appointed TxDOT commissioner, talks with Mike Berry, president of Hillwood and deputy chairman of the 35W Coalition, at a reception for Meadows last week at the Fort Worth Club presented by Wells Fargo. Brinton Payne, senior director of government affairs for the Fort Worth Chamber, is in the background.

No masking this offer: Mr. B was trying to sneak into the fine dining, buffet special for senior citizens from 2-5 p.m. at Zorro's, but Nabil said no-go, hombre. Instead he suggested bringing a group to one of the private dining rooms that hold between 30 and 70 peeps. Well, B doesn't have that many friends, so he arranged a small meeting of 10 for your group. Private dining, huge, fantastic buffet…all yours.
Gym … Rats! When asked about his beautiful wife Sandra, attorney Rice Tilley of Haynes and Boone said she was excellent until seeing the shape of the workout women featured in Fort Worth, Texas magazine. "Now, she thinks she needs to join a gym."
Did you know? Hard to fathom, but according to Doug Kookston, a VP at Cityview Car Wash, it takes him 30 gallons of water to wash every car, but 140 gallons for the do-it-yourselfers at home. Well, not him, but the machines. At Cityview, the first half of your wash is recycled water.

Did you hear the one about…: Cattle is a common sight along Texas highways, but Hillwood/Alliance/Texas' Mike Berry tells about a lone camel amongst buffalo you can see on Ross Perot Sr.'s ranch in northeast Tarrant County. Ross' son-in-law gifted it one Christmas; the camel's name is Teddy. To transport Teddy, a hole in the top of the trailer had to be cut to accommodate the hump.

Skyrocketing sales: Beer sales are nearing crude oil territory before July 4th, the second biggest day of the year. Reason? Son NoBGood and OU/UT friends are back in town.
Skyrocketing connection: Ron Fory of Fory Group has a daughter who knows an astronaut who would go to the moon for her. So he was front row and VIPish during recent liftoff at the Cape.
Speak softly, and carry…: During the Chamber's Annual Meeting, headliner General Peter Pace spoke softly, but forcefully, about a strong defense. The crowd at the Renaissance Worthington, intently listening, was as quiet as snow falling. Gen. Pace last week received the Medal of Freedom from President Bush, the highest honor a President awards.

They've got Spirit: Ralph Heath, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin, the Chamber's Spirit of Enterprise winner, played the coolest company promotional video at the Annual Meeting. Powerful stuff. Made you want to do a flyover somewhere. After the video, Heath said, "Now you know why I love to go to work every day." Lockheed employs 14,000-plus in Fort Worth and "they're all patriots," according to Heath. He also said the F-35 joint strike fighter "would provide tremendous growth for our business the next 10 years." Click here

Rough seas: Lot of grieving already in that she is area's biggest Dallas Mavericks fan despite recent disappointments; but even worse, Farmers Insurance agent Angela Medcalf was in Boston on a whaler with 100 very seasick folks. Wonder who got KP duty.
School & more: Chapel Hill Academy, a new Charter School founded by Lena Pope Home, will open to 168 students August 25 at 4640 Sycamore School Road. In addition to readin', writin' and 'rithmetic at an individualized level, it will have a JPS Community Clinic and family counseling on site.

Hot, hot, hot: Even at midnight July 20 through Trinity Park, the second El Scorcho 25K/50K ultramarathon will be burning … sweat and energy. A sellout of 400 self-described "crazies" will run to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The race is the brain(?)child of founders Ryan Valdez of Cantey Hanger and Jason Costantino of XTO Energy.
Gift worth getting: Texas Rangers employees receive an autographed Nolan Ryan baseball for their birthday.
Just wondering 1: How come Chief Financial Officer is capitalized and senior vice president isn't? Maybe the financial geniuses at Newz-E-Letter sponsor Weaver and Tidwell know?
Scarf this down: The Hermes Creative Awards gave The 2008 Lockheed Martin/Chase Entrepreneur Expo an honorable mention for its concept, writing and design of media. There were more 4,000 entries. The Entrepreneur Expo is a program of the City of Fort Worth's Business Assistance Center.

Kudos: Sandra McGlothlin, Empire Roofing & Empire Disposal, and Gina Puente-Brancato, La Buena Vida Vineyards and La Bodega Winery, will be honored July 24 with Most Influential Woman Awards during the Dallas Business Journal 2008 Women in Business Awards luncheon.
Name with a history: Tim Hendren with Alliance Office Systems has a family with some history. His great uncle Bobby Hendren played for the Washington Redskins and Hendren Township in Wisconsin is named for a great, great grandfather. He says -- with a smile – that Tim stands for Totally Impressive Man.
Yes man: With a name like Biz Loans Acceptance, wondering how Reggie Tucker can possibly could say "No," to a request?
Active seniors: The (Heidi Klum) model is completed and Linda Stegall is signing up 62-and-olders for co-op living at MirAvanti Cooperative at Ridgmar. Buy-in for Fall 2009 opening is $50k-to-$98k, depending on number of bedrooms. Have to check the by-laws to see if you get kicked out if you become an inactive senior.

Stayin' in touch: Subscribers to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram will see the revised monthly Chamberletter in Thursday's Metro section. You also will get an email version and you will be able to tell the difference between it and the weekly Newz-E-Letter...no prizes and no jokes, but more correct info.
Gift galore: Mr. B has seeds that you eat to gift to the Chamber's Dugan for her birthday tomorrow. Eat, water and grow.
