Fancy pants foursome: We've written, ripped and ridiculed EdwardJones financial rep Jake Richter's outrageously patterned pants during past Chamber annual golf tournaments. However, his legion of fan has grown to one. Comerica banker J.R. Holland, a former Colonial Country Club pro no less, is donning fancy pants and has invited Jake as a playing partner for the Sept. 19 tournament at Ridglea Country Club. J.R. has two spots remaining and if you fancy yourself as panting to don outrageous golf wear, then you could earn a spot. Send a photo if you'd like and you could be part of the fearless foursome.
Clearing the air: New Chamber member Hoodz -- hmmm? Does Hoodz modify car parts? Nope. It's a franchised kitchen exhaust cleaning system and owner Sam Creel is one guy happy that there always are new municipal regulations governing kitchens in restaurants. In Mr. B's never-ending attempt to be exhaustive, he exhausted Sam's patience until Sam vented and relented and got us a $75 gift card to use at one of his clients, Cantina Laredo. |

Bowl me over: Steve Carell and Tina Fey had major problems when they stole someone else's reservations, but you're not going to have their problem. This date night for two at Main Event-Fort Worth is in your name only. Shellie (Always) Wright gets you started with one hour of bowling (OK, shoes for an hour, too.) followed by a dinner that includes an appetizer, two entrees and two drinks. Then you are on your own, possibly for billiards, laser tag and/or the arcade. Why not sneak into the VIP room to cap off your night?
Book 'em, Dano: Mr. B was telling Kim Booker of Sandler Training that he regularly will email or call a prospective lead five times in a day. Kim asked how many clients Mr. B had. “Just the Chamber. At 39 cents an hour, how many clients does one person need?” Are five calls too many? What is the social protocol on networking and follow ups? Booker is doing a seminar from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. next Wednesday that includes the all-important free lunch. She will be discussing all the ways to make networkingworks! so you can build relationships and build business. One spot for one reader, but please, no calls.
Owning up to it: Was wondering if Ed Ownby, District Sales Manager for SOS, was a descendant of the Ownby that had his name on SMU's former football stadium. With an assist from Ed's brother Craig, and long story short, seems as if Haynes Ownby made a fortune in oil & gas and passed it to 13 children. Ownby Stadium was named after Jordan Ownby during the 1920s. Ed and Craig are distant relatives, but Ed says, “no extra dollars came with the name for my generation.”
Preventive medicine: Am-Bass-Adorables have ribbon cuttings later this month at Dickey's Pit Barbecue and Blue Bell Creameries so it only makes sense to first cut to the chase tomorrow at Medi-Weight Loss Clinics at 3615 Camp Bowie Blvd. Billions of photos from ribbon cuttings and other events can be seen at the Chamber website.
Advice: Dad B has Alzheimer's. Mom B has cancer. Mr. B thinks he ought to get smarter by attending the free elder care and probate educational seminar tomorrow at Guardianship Services. Free is the key word.
We're out of diapers! Did you know you can buy a yearly StarSaver pass from MedStar for unlimited emergency ambulance transports for $55-$110? Does being out of Cherry Garcia constitute as an emergency?
Sage advice: Newcomer Darin Munson of MKM investments says his mom told him that “people who love you will make fun of you the most. I feel like the most loved guy in the world.”
What happened to the artwork? Your website may work perfectly for computers, but how does it work for mobile devices? AM Design's Tim Trammell says it isn't always a perfect match and something worth monitoring.
He said it: Josh Edwards, Market Manager for Kforce, after a family vacation. “I've never been so glad to be back.”
They said it: Two good responses when asked what people might be saying behind their backs.
- “She's not very graceful,” said Mary Rusnak of the Salvation Army.
- He doesn't look like an IT guy,” said Randal Senter of Aspen Back Office.
Wide audience: Nationwide Insurance owner/agent Juanita Jackson is going nationwide. This month she will have a show on Radio Fishbowl, an internet station out of FW/D.
Ruffled feathers? John Washo strongly touts Aflac's cancer plan, but hard to imagine the duck having fun promoting that on TV.
Fan-tastic: Krystal Holster of Balcom Agency fancies herself as the Texas Rangers' greatest female fan and she is a diehard, but Heather Dearborn of Foremost Staffing has a license plate that reads ANTLR, red and blue Converse sneakers and got a visit from mascot Captain on Valentine's Day.
Sun-spoked: The 100-plus heat hasn't kept Tom Buckman of Panther Real Estate Solutions off his motorcycle. Rides with a jacket, too. He does have an air conditioned Honda van, “but I just like to be on the bike.”
Horsepower: In its collection, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame has Amon Carter's 1933 V8 Cadillac.
An artful: The Amon Carter Museum is celebrating 50 years this Saturday with a fun-filled, free celebration called 50 Fest from 5:30--9 p.m. Those of you who remember Amon know this celebration will take place in Dallas. OK, not! It's at the museum. Guests -- again, remember our favorite word: free -- will be treated to food, drinks and music from two bands.
Terri-coat: Love great (wrinkle) lines. Mary Kay sales director Terri Wood's sales pitch -- “How old you are is your business; how old you look is my business.” |
