Cattle call: Maria Flores was telling Mr. B that Cattlemen's Fort Worth Steak House has been charcoal-broiling steaks since 1947, "almost as long as B has been B." Hey wait a second, Maria, that's 61 years. Give B a break. Cattlemen's offers steaks, chicken, BBQ ribs, seafood, the best homemade rolls, daily lunch specials and three banquet rooms offering seating for up to 120. And don't forget the Texas-size margaritas, wines and a full-service bar. Our favorite is the aroma. You can smell it and order a steak, too, with this belly-full dinner for two valued at $70. Alcohol and gratuity are not included.
More good eats: Prefer your food hickory-smoked and you have to feed an entire family, not just two? Pal Larry Boxer, smoker deluxe at Dickey's Barbecue Pit on Bryant Irvin, says his Variety Family Pack - three pounds of hickory-smoked meats, three pints of veggies, rolls and sauce - is just the package to Que up for. While you are there for your pickup, it's not too early to ask him to smoke your holiday turkey.
Still on the trail: Mr. B took the train to the recent Hyatt Place abode in the Stockyards for a recent Business After Hours and ran into Natalie Parish, who was conducting her own move, from Stockyards Station to EECU. Non-fat Nat offered a quick tour of the entire Station, and wow, there's more to do than just be a Cowboy. Here's a $50 gift certificate to prove it, and the 50 bucks are good at any restaurant or retail shop in the Stockyards.

Matt and Felicia Pinkney, Pinkney Media Group, LLC, visited with Richard Wenzel of VYPE High School Sports magazine at a reeeeeaally popular Business After Hours last week at the Hyatt Place Historic Stockyards Hotel. And yes, the grub there included that delicacy known as Rocky Mountain oysters, prairie oysters, Montana tendergroins, cowboy caviar, swinging beef, or as we call 'em here in Cowtown, calf fries.

Soar for four: The Fort Worth Cats, consecutive three-time league champions, have qualified for the playoffs again, and they will be home Aug. 25 and Aug. 26 for first-round games. Before he skedaddled back to the Norman, Okla. bar scene, full-time student/part-time son NoBGood bribed ticket-head Jeff Meyers for some giveaways. Do not tell Cats President John (there's no freebies in this world) Dittrich, but we've got 10 packages of four tickets, good for either game.
She knows money: Ekua O. Anyanful's name is a handful, and so is her MBA financial advice. Her comprehensive financial plan includes financial planning analysis, recommendation and implementation strategies in the areas of retirement planning, life insurance, long-term care and disability needs, estate planning, major purchase and education planning. You're sure to get rich quick, although government regs prevent us from really saying that.
She is money! Ann Boulom's birth name is Ngeunh. Wells Fargo's versatile Business Sales Officer came to the U.S. from Laos at age 5. Her parents were prophetic: Ngeunh means "money" in Laotian.

Go for the gold: The Chamber's Money Works series of five seminars, which starts Aug. 20, has a new direction for 2008. It's for C-Level managers and will discuss subjects related to management, revenues, profits, advertising/marketing and human resources. It's limited to 50 companies, and different C-Level managers can attend the session most compatible to their area. Weaver and Tidwell sponsors the series.

Worthy ads: Credit Worthington National Bank for unusual marketing. It has launched a video campaign, featuring employees as actors who know now to keep their day jobs. The first video is on YouTube and is a spoof on the benefits of the bank's remote capture service. "Stars" - that term is used loosely - include Gena Attebery, John Goodrich, Courtney Ball and Matthew Steward.
Neighborly: Fort Worth, Texas magazine is finally back in Fort Worth. Coming up on its 10-year anniversary in December, the magazine's offices have moved from Hurst to 6777 West Camp Bowie Blvd., Ste. 130, within the Hickman Building.
Red tape: Two ribbon cuttings this week, Thursday at Rent-A-Center at 6730 Camp Bowie Blvd., where Raymond Motley will even rent out Mr. B for your parties and conventions, and Friday at Flying Tire Motorcycle at 100 E. Loop 820 N. Drive carefully and watch out for Flying Tires and shattered maple bats.

Sis Boom Bah! Babette Bouw is back from Boston. The former TCU cheerleader (1997-2000, including the LT era) is an executive recruiter for Parker & Lynch, specializing in financial positions.
Mow, blow and go: VMC Landscape Services doesn't do the initial installation, but takes over from there at commercial properties. Clients include many HOAs, the Cash America building, Mallick Tower and Sundance Square. Chief Development Officer Greg Goree also mows 'em down as a guest auctioneer nine times a year for non-profits.
Dawn Quixote: A 19-year-old with melanoma needs treatment. Her doctor wants $14,000 up-front. What to do? Where to go? That's when one-person nonprofit Ann Mullen and her Family, Mother, Child Charity program New2Need step in to help. She doesn't offer treatment, but helps those in need get through the bureaucracy and find the services and help they need.

Congrats: The American Heart Association's Tarrant County office was the regional leader for overall increase in revenue and for money raised during the past fiscal year. The office saw a 46 percent increase in fundraising, with more than half a million dollars in new donations over the previous year.
You Are My Sunshine: Sunny Lowe test crashed Mr. B's server. Yikes! While normally this would be a disaster, Sunny and his Blue Jean Networks folks were just showing off their BDR (Backup Disaster Recovery) device, a new solution for backing up servers that eliminates tape. There's lots of technical mumbo jumbo that only Cousin ITs would understand, but backups are made every 15 minutes or so, copies are made and sent to secure data centers on both coasts. Almost eliminates the risk of losing a server by being able to run a copy of a server on its hardware.
Cousin ITs: The partners at the Gallery Art Café on Jennings in the near south side describe themselves as "just four IT guys that opened a restaurant." GAC also has Internet access, entertainment and art, of course. RDx2 partners are Diane Nguyen, Ross Reitzammer, Doris Sawey and (Gov.?) Rick Perry. Chamber ribbon cutting is scheduled there Aug. 19.
Did you know: Textron, parent of Bell Helicopter, has its Information Technology headquarters at Alliance/Texas in Fort Worth. About 100 of the 600 global IT geeks work in Fort Worth.

No Gong Show: The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Association appointed Thomas Hong assistant conductor. He is prepared to step in should something prohibit the scheduled conductor from appearing. Mr. B needs to get a Thomas Hong assistant.
Movie madness: Cynthia Stallins, director of marketing & client relations for Rosenthal Retirement Planning, must like buttered popcorn - her children are named after movie characters. There's Mara Jade - Mara Jade Skywalker is/was wife to Luke Skywalker and mother to his child, Ben. And Trinity Jet - Trinity is from The Matrix; Jet(t) is Dianne Wiest's character in Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. And finally, yes finally, Emilia Jaina - Jaina is Han and Leia Solo's daughter. Emilia is a Spanish version of Amelie.
Express-o: The Holiday Inn Express on Lancaster should open tomorrow <Aug. 14> if inspectors are expressing it. Ownership is the same as the Embassy Suites downtown, which was a pretty outstanding remodel.
More Angela angst: Brown delivers ... for calamitous Angela Medcalf of Farmer's Insurance. She was bitten by a brown recluse while on the job, taking a picture of something about to be insured. One shot and a potent cocktail of steroids and antibiotics and she was as good as new.
Eating Light is Right: It's yogurt might be fruity and light, but its check was big - $30,000 from Dannon's Next Generation Nutrition Grant to the United Way of Tarrant County. The money supports The Little Bites, Big Steps program, which includes activities for children, such as family-style meal planning, hands-on food preparation and fitness games.

Taxing assignment: OK, all you business owners or tax preparers. Chamber needs your help with a ONE-QUESTION survey about the state's franchise (margin) tax. It's anonymous, but tell the truth! Just trying to see how it may be affecting member businesses.
