Tropical treat: Jessica Garcia does special events for Texas de Brazil and says she is volunteering to do something especially eventful when the family-owned restaurant opens soon in Trinidad. Special? As in travel there? Not sure how she goes anywhere after eating the fabulously fantastic smorgasbord of Churrasco meats and from perhaps the greatest salad bar in the entire history of romaine lettuce. Mr. B was pleasantly surprised that Jessica was passing out 15 percent discount cards. Only six more and Mr. B can eat for free. You could be more fortunate with this complimentary dinner for two, including desserts and two non-alcoholic drinks. You are on your own for tax and tip.
Round-up: Son NoBGood has something to do with retirement accounts working for Fidelity Investments--we hope he's not stealing them--and says he likes to practice what he preaches to the retirees: “I'll watch your money while you golf, golf and golf.” NoBGood is no Rory, or even Tiger, but he knows every bunker in town. He spends so much time in them that Brant Ringler, the BMOC of the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, sent out a Green Berets search party. They didn't find NoB, but found four spots in the Sept. 16 fun, fun, fun BHAFB golf tournament. |

Checking in at the Impact Your Business breakfast yesterday were (l to r) presenting sponsor Scott Sherwin, Sandler Training - SalesMastery Consultants, Shawn Yujuico, CloudNine Communications, and Chris Linkenhoger, Dividia. More than 100 members came to hear Shawn talk about social media smarts for small businesses. Among her tips were to keep it simple and post/tweet about anything relating to your business that you would tell a friend about in a verbal conversation. See who else checked in at the Colonial Country Club in our photo gallery. |

Dance the night away: Mr. B once worked at newspapers, which were sheets of paper webbed together and delivered daily to houses of people that read sentences longer than 140 characters. While there, he always, and unsuccessfully, pitched a story to party crash events one entire day at a local private club. Just hang out at the club, attend the events and write about it. Needless to say, that story never has been written. Catholic Charities has taken Party Crashing to a more respectable level. Next Saturday night--Aug. 27--is Noche de Fiesta and you can crash the party at 8 p.m. and with these two tickets courtesy of Malinda Cowan, each of you would get two drink tickets, dancing and the opportunity to bid on silent auction items.
Cheers! Aren't you jealous of guys such as Christopher Vedda and Brandon Wilkerson. The World of Wellness wunderkinds always are smiling, always are cheerful, always claim to be feeling oh-so-good. Guess you would, too, if you had access to their 10-minute massage chair on the hour, every hour. And to doctors that could move your bones into their proper places or treat you medically. Hopefully, this offer will cheer you up: Why not throw a massage and mimosas office party. The World of Wellness crew will come to your office with its chair massage therapists and pamper your staff. You add the mimosas and voila, Par-tee!
Have VIP tickets! Will travel? Have a sweet deal here, no bull. Laura Bettge of Champion Bull Riding bronc busted her way into the ticket office and secured quite the eight-second ride for this Saturday night...in Bossier City, La. The tour event package includes two tickets in premium seating, two "behind-the-scenes" passes to watch part of the show on the chutes, your choice of a cap or t-shirt, an exclusive meet-and-greet before the show, two Commemorative Event Laminates and bragging rights.
Barry Manilow sings: Mandy Anderson, business development consultant for MPI Protective, served in the Navy in Bahrain. Loved it so much she considered dual citizenship, but would have lost her security clearance. She says MPI employee makeup is 49 percent military exes.
Girl power: OmniAmerican Bank is another Chamber member with a majority of women on its executive team -- three women and two men. Overall, Omni's employee population is more than 70% women.
War-in Burger: Wonder why it has been so difficult getting In-and-Out of the So7 area recently?
Talkin' Texan: New Yorker by birth, but a Texan for 18 years, Star-Telegram Watchdog columnist Dave Lieber says the plural of y'all is all y'all. Dave says his teenage son is named Austin because Waco or Waxahachie Lieber didn't sound so good.

Re-cycling an old idea: New Chamber member 2 Wheel Express.com bikes your packages around the city and even to Dallas (The Amon Carter special is $45 one way, $60 round-trip.). The website lists advantages of 2 wheel deliveries, including no fuel surcharges, no impact on the environment (sweat?), reduced traffic congestion and saving on-street parking for emergency vehicles.

Business to business: The Chamber is all for helping your business grow so members are encouraged to check out other members' request for proposals (RFPs) on our site. The latest is from JPS, which is looking for ...well, go look and find out.
Virtual site: Ratio Digital Media and its parent GCG will be moving from I-30 and Summit to So7 in October, leaving the (Mr.) ‘B' building to hog the freeway signage.
Cuttin' up: Am-Bass-Adorables will be traveling to a former Newz-E-Letter giveaway favorite (someone please invite it back) when they visit Dickey's Barbecue Pit at 6219 Oakmont Blvd. next Wednesday. Hope they have the ribs and corn on the cob out of their teeth when they visit Lead Pastor Tim Woody and City Life Center Church at 915 Florence the next day for a catered luncheon. Lots of photos of Chamber members eating food at Chamber events can be seen here.
Kudos: Technology Team's Sherry Green is a winner of the 2011 Enterprising Women of the Year Awards, the magazine's tribute to North America's top female entrepreneurs. Award recipients must demonstrate that they have fast-growth businesses, mentor or actively support other women involved in entrepreneurship, and stand out as leaders in their communities. Technology Team is a TECH Fort Worth client and was nominated by the local chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners.
A shout out: This rave is for new Chamber member Rave Motion Pictures.
Cue this up: Word is that luxury buyers still are buying even if you and Mr. B aren't. Fort Worth Billiard Supply racked up two Brunswick Billiards awards for its corner pocket excellence in sales and service...2010 Brunswick Top Volume Dealer as a single store and 2010 Brunswick Top Customer Service Award. Albert Trujillo is the company's president.
Love...and losing: Gary Napier of Business Network Solutions says he is ranked 26th in the world among chili cooks. Recent results haven't amounted to a hill of beans; he finished fifth and seventh. Making life spicier is that his girlfriend finished first and second.
Sweet surrender: Growing up, Mom B tried to force feed Mr. B the Dalton's Best Maid Kosher Pickles; his favorite was the Sweet Midgets. Mr. B tried to force feed Son NoBGood the Sweet Midgets, but he's a playa and his favorites have some pizzazz to them...the new Xtreme Hot Bitez and Xtreme Sour Bitez. Noah Bass, veep of sales for the Fort Worth company, says the new products are targeted toward “teens and young adults,” but said we sweet seniors could try them, too.
Open wide: With the price of gold golden, buyer American Jewelry Exchange has been busy. Amber Tinsley says nonprofits and business employee funds have been interested in her we-buy-at-your-site promotion to raise money for their groups.
We're kid-ding: Chamber calendar of events shows a member luncheon September 22 featuring FWISD Interim Super Walter Dansby. Keeping with the school spirit, it will be held at McClung Middle School. Mr. B asked if we would be eating with the terrible teens, but seems the mac and cheese will be served in the band room - round tables with linens -- before heading to the auditorium to hear Dansby. Opening entertainment includes the school's string quartet.
Foiled again: The Chamber's new website could be ready by late October, AM Design's Tim Trammell says. Talented as he is, Tim said he wouldn't be able to replace the cursor arrow with Mr. B's picture.
