Chopsticks: We're midway through an extended Restaurant Week(s), where local restaurants have fixed-priced dinners for $35, and $7 benefiting the Lena Pope Home. Mr. B is chopsticking his way through Tarrant County just as well as Michael Phelps is bathing in Beijing and struck Olympic gold at Mercury Chophouse. Aligning his silverware perfectly, using his napkin tenderly and tipping generously, Mr. B received a 9.97 score. Cyndi Wilson heard Mr. B was in the (chop) house and medaled him with an offer of a dinner for two before Restaurant Week closes next Friday. If you win and you go and don't pay, please leave a big tip and a donation for LPH.
Zoo-m on over: There still is that last week of summer to take care of and you've probably run out of ... 1) ideas for entertainment, 2) money, 3) sitters, etc. Well, load up the Vespa because we've got tickets for four to visit the all-new, all air-conditioned Fort Worth Zoo. Hey, it's hot out there and the Zoo tenants are overly tanned and needed to be cool, so Michael Fouraker took the old Casa Manana dome and put it over the Zoo. Haven't seen it? Here's your chance.
Pay dirt: You may or may not remember the story Mr. B told you about his days in the dorm at Florida State and how classmate Stoney LaRue got his nickname. What he didn't tell you is how classmate Gary Allan ended up with two first names; it happens sometimes when you aren't thinking straight in the dorm late at night and...ooops, here comes the editor. Anyways, we're having a class reunion of sorts, and you and some pals are invited to join us at the third Cross Canadian Ragweed Red Dirt Roundup. It's Aug. 31 just outside of Billy Bob's Texas and Princess Pam says she will host five couples. CCR is playing, as are Robert Earl Keen, the Stoner, double first name and more.

Serious poker faces prevail at a practice session for the upcoming Women Influencing Business 2nd Annual Texas Hold'em Poker Party, Sept. 25th at the Fort Worth Club. That's the back of Dugan's head, which you recognize. Left to right is Dawn Howell, Design Works; Sue Austin, Aries Productions; Todd Miller, Johnston & Matthews; and Jason Smith, Arcos.

Sometimes you feel like a nut: The lovely ex-Ms. B is allergic to peanuts, and every time there was a fight, Mr. B would suggest making up at a Thai restaurant. The official end came after Mr. B made some delicious peanut butter brownies. Notwithstanding allergies and school lunch scares, you'd be nuts to pass on this giveaway from Rhonda Rich and Ellis Pecan Country Store. It's the sampler pack and she sent two for B and one to give away. Or maybe that was supposed to be vice versa? The samplers include redskins (not the Washington kind), jalapeanuts, nacho peanuts, cocktail peanuts and chocolate peanuts, with popular pecan treats tossed in the mix.
Stay in school: Prevail to Graduation is a collaborative initiative between the City of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Independent School District, the Fort Worth Chambers of Commerce and others with the aim of increasing the graduation rate of Fort Worth high school-age students. Volunteers are needed for a Sept. 6 Stay-in School Walk to personally contact students who were enrolled in spring 2008 and did not return to school in fall 2008. Volunteers will assist in encouraging students to persist toward graduation and provide them resources to aid them in overcoming obstacles that may prevent high school completion. Let the Chamber know if you or your company would like more info.
Doesn't get better than this: Dawn Winters of Weir SPM spent her one-month anniversary watching a marathon of Family Guy.

Ex-shoes-me: Decker Jones attorneys Patricia Cole and Janet Hahn make a fine pair: Cole-Hahn. Janet is a featured panelist Sept. 10 for a Chamber seminar.
Bullet-proof: If you need ammunition for your next contract talks, might try Alliant Techsystems, which is an operating group called Special Mission Aircraft at Meacham Airport. It's the world's largest small caliber ammunition manufacturing entity for sporting enthusiasts and law enforcement agencies.

A 2009 oddity: Next year looks to be a good year for rich people to die. The estate tax exemption jumps from $2 million to $3.5 million in 2009, but drops to $1 million in 2010.
2009 celebrations: SLR Roofing turns 50 next year. The company is celebrating early as it readies to start a job for The Museum of Science and History.
Worth celebrating: Attorney Richard Wiseman has worked with only one law firm -- Brown, Dean, Wiseman, Proctor, Hart & Howell - for 32 years. The group of attorneys will be 50 years on the second floor of the Fort Worth Club in 2009, the club's longest-running tenant. And the 86-year-old firm has had Union Pacific Railroad as a client all 86 years.
Buy a vowel? The Fort Worth Public Library is looking for secret shoppers.
Buy anything you want: Williamson-Dickie produces Dickies work and leisure wear. Dickies just concluded the entry deadline for its $1 million American Worker of the Year contest.
Just a guess: The winner probably won't need to be such a great worker any longer.
Going national: Easter Seals North Texas' nominee - client Jessica Seigel - has been named a national spokesperson for the nonprofit that assists people with disabilities.

Going international: UTA research alum and TECH Fort Worth client Debra Wawro of Resonant Sensors is one of only 19 U.S. companies invited - all expenses paid -- to a huge healthcare business development expo in Japan.
Feeling left out: What is going on here? Is Mr. B not complimentary to the Am-Bass-Adores? Sure, they invite B to attend the ribbon cutting for Rocco's Fried Squid World, but where is the invite to exclusive, elegant and exquisite The Vault Mediterranean, which is tomorrow? Non ho ricevuto. You and B can see what was missed by checking out all the photo pages at the Chamber website. Next Tuesday, The Stayton at Museum Way off 7th Street will host the Am-Bass-Adores.
Attention investors: If you know of large, one-owner tracts, buy them. Real estate folks say oil & gas companies are paying premiums to buy drill sites.
Tiger in your ta...bank: Former Colonial Country Club golf pro James (J.R.) Holland is enjoying life as a Business Development Officer for Colonial Savings. The Tulsa grad loved the golf environment, but prefers a Monday-Friday work week.

Brain-washed: Weird, but unleaded regular at $3.45-$3.55 a gallon seems like such a bargain.
Christmas at the Carter: Jingle Bells to Carol Noel, who has been promoted to Director of Development at the Amon Carter Museum.
KUDOS: The American Paint Horse Association and the Paint Horse Journal were honored with 22 awards from three associations for their marketing tactics, service to members, editorial content and magazine design.
Grace be with B: Mr. B was looking to supplement his 39 cents an hour Chamber pay and applied to Adam Jones to do PR and marketing for his new restaurant, Grace, which opens mid-October. Adam went with Witherspoon. So Mr. B asked about being the executive chef. Adam went with Blaine Staniford, who has been at Fuse in Dallas, and is recognized for his inventive Tex-Asian menu. So Mr. B asked about being executive sous chef, but Adam went with long-time Del Frisco's steak tartare Martin Thompson. Adam, you need a dishwasher?
Oops...did it again: Thought Royal Fubar was some Middle Eastern sheik. Wrong-o. It's a new restaurant/bar opening around Sept. 1 in Rodeo Plaza. Fubar stands for "fun, unique bar".
