High-5s all around: After having dissected and eaten and shared all the ins-and-outs of the 7th Street dining scene, Mr. B took his office staff of one back to the original in-and-out in five minutes -- Pie Five Pizza Co. at Montgomery Plaza. At the four-minute mark, Mr. B ran into marketing maestro Adrian De La Garza and asked for a Pie in the Sky prize pack for an entire office tower. His eyes got as big as his pies before he countered with a gift card good for pizza and 22-ounce fountain drinks at Pie Five Pizza for you and four co-workers.
WorthAdvertising: One year anniversary of WorthGoing.com next month and the Arts Council of Fort Worth and Tarrant County took more than baby steps the past 12 months. WorthGoing.com is THE complete event site, with descriptions, ticket links and pictures for 500+ events at any given time. Oddly, from May through mid-August, nearly 600 visits to the site came from outside the country and 118 visits from Los Angeles, which is another country itsownself. Another 3,000 visits came from Dallas. Lots of events, lots of visits and two chances to win a rotating banner ad for a week during September or October. |

Well, Did You Evah? When the Texas Millionaires Chorus performs, Anything Goes. Especially during the Sept. 17 performance of “Cole Porter and Friends” at the Scott Theater. One of Porter's great hits was I've Got You Under My Skin, which makes you wonder if Frankie Valli is one of the “friends” that will be appearing. Sing-Song-meister Rocky Willetts is offering two chances to win. There are two tickets for the 2 p.m. matinee or two tickets for the 7 p.m. nightcap.
Tee it up: To PR its Sept. 19 annual golf tournament, the Chamber was looking for 25 reasons to play this Classic. Well, there are 18 fabulous holes at each of the courses at Ridglea Country Club, a lunch, a dinner, a sleeve of golf balls. That's 21, which is good at the casino, but Mr. B needs four more good reasons for Lydia (not related to Monty) Hall to market. How's this? Four players will get to partake of all the fancy festivities as part of (non-playing) Mr. B's foursome.
T it up, too: The Cowboys Coach shuttle to Dallas Cowboys Stadium begins this week for the non-Cowboys LSU-Oregon State game and continues for all Cowboys 2011 regular season and (pray for) playoff games. T service will be offered for four other college games -- Arkansas vs. Texas A&M, TCU vs. BYU, Texas Tech vs. Baylor and the Jan. 6 Cotton Bowl.
Sleeping Beauty: Tim Trammell of AM Design is not reel big on the movie-going experience. His best times at the theater are “sleeping through the movie.”
Pick me, pick me: Mr. B got a 5.4 percent raise during 2010, from 37 to 39 cents and figures that raise has to qualify for a top business award or maybe a spot as a negotiator for Priceline.com. William Shatner has a better sidekick than Mr. B, so maybe entering for one of the Fort Worth Chamber's Small Business of the Year Awards might be a smarter idea. If you want to compete against B's success, and you are a for-profit business headquartered in Tarrant County with 1-150 employees, you are eligible. For more information, go here. Nominations are due September 30.
Eighth wonder: Mr. B's sixth sense about Five Guys Burgers and Fries coming to Sundance Square in early 2012 is we all are going to be seven pounds heavier.
12:01 a.m.? OK, we too are excited about the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Dec. 30, but who got the short straw and is going to be selling the tickets a minute after midnight tonight? Hope it wasn't Hope.

Separated at birth? With Glee-ful anticipation for the new season, we present Puck (right) and Brent Sorrells from TECH Fort Worth.
Don't card her: Fort Worth Chamber intern Corinne DeFord is no relation to Frank. She doesn't know who he is, either. Nor does she have a business card. “I'm an intern. I don't have a card.” She's a former landman (landwoman?) in Pennsylvania and Wyoming. |
Heat waves: The slew of 100-degree days has been a blessing for Pulliam Pools. “We are ahead of last year because people want to escape the heat in their own pool,” said President Debra Smith. “When it is hot as heck, pool companies love it. One man's aggravation is another man's blessing!”
The Golden Rule: Things Mr. B learned the first week of school...
- United Way has paid for a “college coach” in every Fort Worth ISD middle
school to get students excited/educated about going to college.
- The City of Fort Worth allocates $2 million annually so FWISD students can
have a safe place to be after school. Last year, 18,000 students took advantage of the program.
Have jobs, will link: Because it was free, Mr. B attended the August Job Links Excelerator at the National Guard Armory and enlisted the prospective Ms. B. Now he has his weekends free. If you would like similar opportunities or want to network with HR folks and job candidate providers, then be at TCU's Dee J. Kelly Alumni and Visitors Center at 8 a.m. Sept. 7. We'll also be recognizing Distinguished Employers of Fort Worth Teens.
Keeping an eye on you: Account manager Chris Putnam of Dividia says the company has a monitoring system for point-of-sale areas in case you want to know who is stealing from you. Dividia (pronounced da-vid-e-a) is not easy to say, but according to Chris, whatever you come up with is probably better than what they call it in Waco--Davidian.
We're right behind you, pal: Former OU walk-on basketball player Josh Edwards of Kforce once got the honor of leading the team onto the court. He ran out, all charged up. No one followed.
Boomerang: They traveled east, but couldn't stay away from North Texas. And they're back, Merianne Roth as veep of Marketing Communications for the Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau and Billy Fong as veep of Development and Marketing at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.
Safe travels: Nancy Ricker, long-time Fort Worth ISD administrator and communicator, and liaison to the Chamber, is retiring. Chamber gifted her with a bound collection of the 25 best Newz-E-Letters ever written, though it only could find 23.
Jolting news: The 100-year old historic barn that houses the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame is so 21st century. It has gone green, with help of a matching grant from Oncor. 72 solar array panels were installed on the roof and the June-July electric savings was $1,491 year-over-year. Executive director Jami Hoffman says keeping a constant summer temp of 85 degrees, the addition of ceiling fans, plugging leaks and solar panels are really paying off. 85 degrees sounds hot until you come in from 105 degrees.
Raining success: Not only did the City of Fort Worth welcome the National Reining Horse Association to its new events hometown last week, but the Will Rogers Memorial Center began its partnership with Reata Restaurant for two dining locations on site. Reata at the Backstage began year-round service on an as-needed basis and La Espuela Mexican Cantina will be operational for future equestrian events.
Hit the ground running: Very first day of work at Leaman Container for executive assistant Julie Bucek and Steve Leaman sends her to a 7:30 Chamber breakfast. Mr. B did not tell Mr. Leaman that Julie yawned 36 times in 90 minutes.
