Sweet dreams: Dawn Hostetler is hitting homers with the opening of her Courtyard by Marriott on Overton in southwest Fort Worth. The daughter of ex-Texas Ranger Dave Hostetler (that may or may not be true) doubles your pleasure with amenities such as ergonomic chairs and downy comforters. How’d you like to sleep under that softness? You can with this one-night weekend stay.
Firing silver bullets: Figure you probably ran low on beer after the Labor Day grillin’ and football thrillin’ weekend, so we called Larry Anfin to come to the rescue. And he has, as His Graciousness usually does, with a generous giveaway for three winners from Coors. Each will receive one Coors Light home draft unit, which holds (16) 12 ounce beers and has its own CO2 for chillin’. AND, there’s more: Each winner will get a case of Mike's Hard Lemonade 16-ounce plastic bottles.
Sorry, for women only: Alison, GM at Hawks Creek Golf Club, who is so Wise, has come up with a grand “dame” golf idea to benefit the Lena Pope Home. It’s called Wine & Nine, an exclusive evening of fun Sept. 23. You get a mini clinic, nine holes of biggie golf and a post-golf wine and cheese party. And if you Just Do It right, we know an athletics label that’s handing out prizes. We’ve got two of the exclusive 48 spots to give away.

Boxed in: Mr. B met this wonderful professional woman and after several flirtatious forays, she mentioned that she would love to receive what comes in that little ol’ box. So B hustled over to Leaman Container, which makes the best boxes, and Steve Leaman and Cathy Brooks showed off a fine assortment of small boxes. And B chose the one that came with two tickets to Boots & Bling Sept. 19 at The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. The party benefits initiatives for women, including those by Chamber members SafeHaven, Women's Center of Tarrant County and Samaritan House. Mr. B struck out with his little ol’ box, but you’ll win big with yours.
Ridin’ in style: Wonder if William Dorsett will transport all the Am-Bass-Adorables to his ribbon cutting next Tuesday at Diamond B Limousine, 707 N. Freeway? There are tons (half tons?) of photos of events and ribbon cuttings at the Chamber website.
Business idea? A reader asks – Have you realized that it's a penny for your thoughts, but people put their two cents in? Someone is making a penny.

One, ringy-dingy, two ringy-dingy: The Chamber’s got an updated phone system with caller ID, VOIP and lots of other new features and it’s being installed this week. (The last phones were purchased during the Carter administration.) Staff will be in training today and there may be a few minutes of down time during the transition. If you have any problems ringing us up, please wait a bit and try again.

Wonder if she is insured: Farmer’s Insurance agent Angela Medcalf went to Galveston to visit her fiancé, Les, last month. Steps outside Sunday morning into the hotel parking lot only to find her convertible top slashed. About a dozen cars were hit in the slash and run. Cost to repair -- $2,500. Visiting Les – priceless.
How smart are you? Paulette Turner, of Integrated Leadership Concepts, told a recent Chamber gathering that emotional intelligence is 58 percent of performance. (IQ is 10 percent and personality 4-to-9 percent.) So, what is emotional intelligence? It’s your ability to recognize and understand your emotions.
Greening of Fort Worth: EECU's “pay it forward” attitude has paid dividends the past few months. The credit union's members donated more than 900 pounds of pet food to the Tarrant Area Food Bank and EECU gave away more than $4,000 for members to "pay it forward" in their communities.
Bussing this T idea: In college, we got 17 people into a VW bug. So Mr. B was thinking 19 could get into the Neon and at $5 a pop, it would be worth setting up a shuttle from the B Mansion to the Dallas Cowboys games. Unfortunately, Mensa mind reader Dick Ruddell took the idea and The T will run Cowboy Coaches shuttles from Fort Worth to regular season Cowboys games for $5 roundtrip per person. The shuttles begin loading at the TRE T&P parking lot two hours before kickoff. They will begin returning to Fort Worth after the game as each bus is filled.
Busy Bs: Brinton Payne has been promoted to vice president of Governmental and Urban Affairs at the Chamber. Mr. B has been promoted to vice president of Urban Living.

Texas is going nuts! Durham-Ellis Pecan Company is Region 5 winner and one of seven finalists in this year’s Texas Association of Business’ Small Business of the Year competition. Durham-Ellis Pecan Co. has more than 130,000 square feet and shells approximately 10 million pounds of pecans and roasts millions of pounds of other nuts. Odie Dollins, president of Durham Pecan Company, was selected Small Business Man of the Year in Region 5.
Flat fees: Premier Real Estate Services offers limited marketing/sales packages to sell your home for as little as $349. What if the B Mansion is only valued at $338?
Cast-away: Remember roller derby queen Dena Walts of Expanco? She’s got a broken arm. That cast makes her quite the villain.
Sea worthy: Jill Gunnell of State Farm ensured her future happiness by eloping this summer to marry fellow insurer Mark Matthews on a yacht in Chesapeake Bay. (No, not the oil & gas Chesapeake.)
Jobba the hunt: Contract negotiations with boss Miserly Mistress are not going well, so Mr. B figured he had better go to the Chamber’s Job Links September Excelerator, sponsored by AT&T. By B’s third-grade math skills count, there were 202 job openings presented, not including an explanation of Alliance Opportunity Center website, where all the Alliance-based company jobs are listed. One job was paying $110,600, which is $109,800 more than Mr. B earns. Next Excelerator is Oct. 7 at UNTHSC.

King for a day: Dr. Gary Krahn, Headmaster of Trinity Valley School, told VisionFW luncheon attendees that if he were king of Fort Worth, he would want to have the best public (and private schools) in the nation much so that private schools would not be necessary. He says K-12 education will define the success of our nation.
Kelly or Avocado green? When Mr. B was in school during the Dark Ages, the only things green were crayons and beans, and mold in the restrooms. Now it’s everywhere; entire buildings are going green. A 120,000-square-foot Science and Academic LEED-Gold certified, sustainable building is going up at Tarrant County College Southeast. Turner Construction Company is the general contractor.
Woman got game: Hope Lockett, who had been with the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Foundation, is sticking with sports, but moving to ESPN as the Supervisor, Sales & Marketing for the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl.
Road map to giving: There’s more to the Mapsco retail store than just maps, says Nicholas DuVall. “We have all kinds of gift ideas.” Wondering if they just have the ideas or the gifts, too?

Leap Frog? TCU's football team is ranked 16th; it's Neeley School of Business Entrepreneurship Program is ranked 18th for undergraduate business schools offering entrepreneurship majors, according to U.S. News & World Report. Wonder which will finish the year higher. (By the way, not too late to get a discount on that TCU football. Go to the member directory, type in TCU and click on discount for your half-price season tickets.)
