On the Rangers bandwagon!
No food is too rich: With Hannukah around the corner, Mr. B needs to make some extra cash because the C.D. and Lehman Brothers stock aren't doing it. He's been busing (not kissing) at Eddie V's Prime Seafood and the tips are great. Last night, they included sweet corn and crab chowder with bacon and chives, west Australian lobster tails and truffled macaroni and cheese. A few nickels and quarters, too. Bradley Bruce and Tricia Haber, the best of the bestest at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, were so busy networking with all the folks they know that they left plenty of tips on their plates. Their mission to preserve, protect and grow wealth for the wealthy, their love of Eddie V's and their loyalty to Newz-e-letter resulted in this $100 gift card.
I feel pretty, oh so pretty: Mr. B was talking with Angela Brewer about Alliance Med Spa, and she said its medical expertise and his motivation could create a new healthier, more beautiful Mr. B. Having just seen Moneyball with Brad Pitt, Mr. B told Angela that was the new healthier, beautiful look he was after. She hemmed. She hee-hawed. “We can work wonders, not miracles,” was what Mr. B thought he heard. She did hook Mr. B up with Dr. Michael Bailey for treatment for more radiant, youthful skin. Hollywood, watch out! Angela also hooked a Newz-E-Letter reader with a facial plus medical grade chemical peel. |

Entertainment at the Sept. 22 Combined Area Council luncheon at Jean McClung Middle School was provided by the R.L. Paschal High School String Quartet. Arys-Jade Darton, Peter Nam, Jonathan Shin and Maddy Warner's strings tuned our ears to hear FWISD's Interim Superintendent Walter Dansby's presentation in the auditorium. See the video here and more photos here. |

No rain on our parade: If the drought is going to last another three months, that takes us into January and that means you can feel risk- and umbrella-free to participate in the Nov. 25 Chesapeake Energy Parade of Lights presented by Downtown Fort Worth Inc. Unless Chesapeake rains down thousands of dollars in mineral lease renewals. Claire Bloxom at Concussion PR'd over a reminder that the deadline to enter a float is THIS FRIDAY. Also, reserved and VIP seating sell out quickly and those tickets are on sale. Mr. B bought off Claire by saying she would get two mentions and in return here are two sets of two VIP Hot Seats, which include padded chairs, non-alcoholic beverages and the real plum of the deal -- private restrooms.
Salute to women: 15 women will be honored by SafeHaven Oct. 14 during the Legacy of Women Awards Luncheon, chaired by Fort Worth, Texas magazine's Diane Stow, at Fort Worth's Omni Hotel. Keynote speaker is Tanya Brown, the youngest sister of the late Nicole Brown Simpson. After Nicole's death, the Brown family founded The Nicole Brown Foundation; its mission is to educate communities on strategies for domestic violence prevention. Today, Tanya speaks for the foundation and about her struggles with an eating disorder, depression, anxiety and unresolved grief after her sister's death. We've got two tickets to hear her legacy.
Friends in ALL places: The Chamber is more than just business. It is about building relationships and nothing expresses that more than what happened recently among Texas Tornados Leads Group members. One member expressed that times were difficult (financially) after a family crisis. Another member sent out an email asking the members to help any way possible. In a few days, members donated more than $570.
Praise for the boss: Mac McLain, development honcho at Texas Wesleyan University, says President Fred Slabach is a gift that keeps on giving. “He hit the ground running and has amazed us with his involvement in the community. Makes our jobs easier.”
Helllooooo! Hey, little help here, Chamber membership peeps. Hope you told all these new members -- Faires Plastic Surgery, Candlewood Suites-West Ft. Worth, Hilton Garden Inn Fort Worth Alliance Airport, Ryan's Family Steakhouse, Blue Sushi Sake Grill, Z-Spa, Hot Damn, Tamales! and Sweet Tomatoes - the benefits of Newz-E-Letter giveaways.
Keys to success: Who figures the first bid at a nonprofit's live auction would be a winner? Bill Bowles didn't, so The Bowles Group honcho was bowled over last month when he bid first and only once and won a digital keyboard. Any piano teachers out there?
And now, for the main event: Am-Bass-Adorables and other spares will be rolling and bowling with scissors tomorrow afternoon at Main Event Entertainment in southwest Fort Worth. Main Event also will host a Leads Explosion that evening. Come out, hang out, eat, drink and get laser tagged. You might even pick up a few leads.
Ready for Prime Time: In less than four years, viewership of the National Cutting Horse Association's YouTube collection is more than one million.
The engine(s) that could: Am-Bass-Adorables also will jet over to Grand Prairie Friday for the ribbon cutting for Total Engine Support (TES) Aviation Group. The British company is an expert on engine maintenance for small airlines, individual owners and investors. It has more than 600 engines valued at $3 billion in its care. Chamber event photos can be viewed here.
Schooled on newcomer: Bethel University, headquartered in McKenzie, TN., has ventured out of state to set up shop in Bedford. Bedford? Rachel White says Bethel has been affiliated with the Cumberland Church since the 1840s and there are church ties in Bedford.

Tied in a bow: Comerica banker J.R. Holland has a propensity for wearing bow ties, which he claims never will go out of style. Newborn son Arthur Scott Holland, nicknamed Ash, already is carrying on the tradition. He left the hospital with a black and white, polka dot iron-on bow tie attached to his white onesie. Kid is stylin'! |
Art of the deal: Michael Wheaton of Lucien Wright Insurance is an endorsed agent for the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. If that doesn't nail you with excitement, this might: Wheaton hired Chris Galvin of Blue Line Caricatures to draw at the recent trade show. “It started a little slow, I think the “tough” roofers were a little reluctant, but once he did a couple and people were showing them around, people started lining up and we had to slot them,” Wheaton said. “He stayed an extra hour and I still had to turn some people away. I got the double benefit the next day when people were coming up and asking where he was. It was a fun way to interact with the members.”
Irons in the fire: Looking for a ringer on your golf team for a fall tourney? Might ask Kelly Wuestenfeld of Fed Ex. She played varsity four years during high school - the team won two state championships -- and turned down a scholarship to New Mexico State to study business and communications at the University of Arizona. All those overnight deliveries limit her game, but she still shoots in the 80s.
Commercial timeout: Mr. B mentioned this last week, but since then Herschel Williams has changed the spelling of his name to Hurchel and that is breaking news. Or a terrible error last week. Bye Herschel, and bygones, Hurchel. So, this week, Hurchel is wrapping up sales for the Chamber's 2012 Newcomers Guide and if just one ad is purchased from this mention, Mr. B will be on the cover. (That could be the terrible error this week.) The magazine, which is as big as War and Peace, is distributed to realtors, HR directors, unsuspecting students and visitors, and, of course, newcomers moving to Fort Worth. You can see it online at http://livability.com/fort-worth/tx/ and if you've been thinking of buying, you better hurry to Hurchel at hwilliams@jnlcom.com.
Growth spurts: Not even five years on Camp Bowie and Tarleton State University has grown to 1,100 students.
Back to school: McClung Middle School is one of five Fort Worth ISD schools built from the last bond approved by voters. The schools were built on time and under budget because competition was up and costs down during this downturn. The schools have no fences. At McClung, many neighbors gather nightly at the running track. |

Money talks: Financial guru Greg (Ice) Kubes of Edward Jones passed his certified financial planner exam and is a licensed CFP. Congratulations, Greg. More importantly, in exchange for this shout out, he has agreed to sell a cheat sheet to son NoBGood, a Fidelity rep that has just begun the CFP licensing process.
Addition by subtraction: One highlight among many new promotional products is an erasable highlighter.
