Gobble this up: Mr. B was running the dishwater at Ridglea Country Club to supplement his Chamber income, and he mentioned to RCC General Manager Christina Toups that he probably wouldn't have turkey for Thanksgiving because he had to cut back on expenses. As wont her Leadership Fort Worth position, sensitivity and overall kindness, Christina offered Mr. B some hot dogs for that festive feast because all her turkeys were reserved for a full house and no one would be ordering hot dogs. Newz-E-Letter readers, however, are held in higher esteem and Christina and Director of Catering/menu manager Norma and Executive Chef Clifton will feed your feasters with a 12-14 pound turkey, cornbread stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce and an oxymoron homemade, Clubmade pie. All you do is pick it up Thanksgiving Day between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Feast afoot: There's no better way to feel good about stuffing your face with food and football on Thanksgiving than running off the soon-to-be excess weight before you put it on. For nearly 30 years, folks have been running along Camp Bowie Thanksgiving morning to benefit the Westside YMCA, which soon will be just the Y. So, Y don't you run for fun? More than 14,000 big people, little people, old people, young people, strollers and dogs are ably herded like cats by director Chris Butler and crew, and if you're out running and walking you're not in the kitchen. But four of you will be cooking nonetheless with a paid-for entry and T-shirt to the 2010 YMCA Turkey Trot.
Behind every Great Woman is...: As you know, Mr. B, for the 17th straight year, did not win the Chamber's Small Business of the Year honor. Nor did he win The Business Press' Great Women of Texas honor. Someone named Marty Leonard came out of nowhere to snatch that recognition. Marty and 20 or so other marvelous Women of Influence will be honored Nov. 11 at the Fort Worth Club and Ms. Forester at the paper and Mr. B crystallized a deal where you and a guest can attend this gala event. Get all the details at the paper's website. |

The letter "F" doesn't only stand for friendly but for Freebirds World Burrito, whose booth won the "Friendliest Booth" award voted by the attendees of the Chamber's 2010 Taste of Tarrant - Super BAH presented by Coors Distributing Company of Fort Worth held last Thursday at Stockyards Station. See the other winners and categories here and photos from the event here.

Broadway or bust: Long before Mr. B, Little B was booed for singing in the shower. In his own B mini mansion! To this day, he won't even sing Happy Birthday. So it is with highest reverence that he salutes The Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts, home to the legendary Texas Boys Choir, for 10 years of super sounds and its $5-million building expansion. Open houses and performances of 42nd Street are tomorrow through Sunday and here's a family four-pack of tickets to any performance.
Embezzled eats treat: The fifth giveaway this week was not offered because Mr. B decided to keep it hisownself to celebrate his birthday yesterday. You probably wouldn't have been interested because it was just the award-winning chefs from Del Frisco's, Fort Worth Club, Mercury Chophouse, Vidalia's, Grace, Eddie V's, and Taco Cabana, each cooking one course of a sumptuous 8-course meal deal in your home.
Burger bucks: McDonald's and Smashburger are new Chamber members. Hope they're aware of (big) member-to-member discounts.
BMOC: Big Boss Bill Thornton is going into the Texas State Sports Hall of Honor this weekend. From the university's release: “Bill Thornton was a standout football player for the Bobcats, earning letters from 1970-72. Thornton was an all-purpose player for the Bobcats, specializing in offense and defense. Bill played a variety of positions, including quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end and defensive back.”
Western popularity: Balcom socialite Stephanie Scott says Justin Boots, with more than 51,000 Facebook fans, is happy to welcome Billy Bob's Texas to the 40,000 fan club.

Deer in the headlight: Brave soul Carmen Ashcraft of Accounting Principals was in New York for the American League playoffs; wore her Texas Rangers jersey and did antlers and claws walking around Times Square. She ate at Dallas BBQ and put her name on the list as GO RANGERS. “So, when they called us for our seating, they had to announce loudly, ‘GO RANGERS, PARTY OF FOUR; GO RANGERS, PARTY OF FOUR.' We actually heard ‘booooo' from across the restaurant, but the few high-5s we got made it worthwhile.”
Thanks for the memories: Texas Rangers, it was a wonderful ride. Thank you.

Busy as Burt's Bees: Former Rep. Kay Granger do-it-all Sally Burt is now retailing in the 7th Street corridor as FIG Designers, importer of fashion fun.
I ♥ Sandy: Instead of borrowing/stealing innovative and creative marketing ideas, you could get ideas from Texas Wesleyan's Dr. Sandy Hart. Today's the last day to register for her breakfast talk next Wednesday at Colonial Country Club.
Breaking news: This just dribbled in...Greyhound Lines is the official bus of the Harlem Globetrotters.
Oh, sistah, what is that? Next Thursday, Fort Worth Sister Cities' gala includes an amateur - very amateur - takeoff of Dancing With The Stars...all to raise money for youth scholarships and programs that build friendships with Fort Worth's eight sister cities. Carlo Capua (Z's Cafe) and J.R. Labbe (Star-Telegram) are among the 20 couples competing and will dance a tango. Carlo Capua sounds just perfect for a tango. Mr. B wants to see Veronica Chavez Law (Decker Jones) disco and Dick Ruddell (The T) jitterbug, and thinks it's perfectly ironic that Becky Renfro Borbolla (Renfro Foods) will be doing a salsa.
Frog foxtrots: And next Friday, as part of TCU's Clark Weekend 2010, Deborah Ferguson (NBC5) and Jack Larsen are among the dancers and Vice Chancellor Tracy Syler-Jones and TCU pitcher Matt Purke are judges for Dancing with the Frogs, Season 2. |

Yes We Can, Amen: The YWCA's Women Who Care, Share Luncheon featured the kids from its Child Development Pre-School singing. One of the more memorable moments at a fundraising luncheon. The YWCA eschewed a speaker and instead allowed a client to tell her story of success. Very moving; it drew a standing ovation and tears from emcee Deborah Ferguson.
Maybe just a high-5 next time: Clarence Moore of ASG Security -- and with a good foundation hisownself at 260 pounds -- recently “bumped” old pal Mayor Mike Moncrief in a celebratory greeting. Clarence says 3M was taken aback and said, “You're an immovable object.”
She walks the talk: Kim Wilkenson, an AT&T small business account rep, says she recently audited a phone bill for a new client who figured nothing was wrong because his bill was the same every month. No increase, no worries, said the owner. When she was done, Kim had saved the company $3,000...a month!
Leads Group success: In just a few months of membership, Brandon Wilkerson has at least five members from his Cowtown Leads Group as clients of World of Wellness.

Celebrities, Take 5: The final word...
-
Former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and celebrity herownself, Bethany Tyler of Burnett's Staffing: Owen Wilson, George Clooney and Will Ferrell, and she opened (cheering or singing?) for KC and the Sunshine Band.
-
J.R. Holland, Comerica Bank: Arnold Schwarzenegger was playing golf at the golf club where I worked in D.C. and he certainly could have used a lesson or seven. Although he played large characters on screen, he wasn't much taller than I am (5'8"). While working at Colonial, I had the opportunity to meet Oscar-winning songwriter T. Bone Burnett. He's the only person I've ever seen play golf while wearing a tuxedo shirt (with the bow tie, untied, around the collar), shorts and golf shoes.
- Tamara Fisher, American National Bank -- My most famous acquaintance is Mr. B.

Fiery stuff: Reata Restaurant chef Juan Rodriguez won the D/FW competition and was among the top three statewide in Chefs Under Fire.
Leftover Leach: One person former Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach wanted to meet last month while here to speak for the Business Press was author Dan Jenkins. Warren Douglas exec Susan Nix helped to arrange a breakfast at the Omni Hotel and per request, Jenkins gave Leach an autographed, first-edition copy of
Semi-Tough.
Mea culpa: Last week's photo of the week featured Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and Dee Kelly of Kelly Hart & Hallman. Mr. Kelly appeared so youthful in the photo that we captioned him Dee Kelly, Jr. |
