BASIC FUNCTION:

The Economic Development Team Assistant ensures that the Economic Development department operates in an organized and efficient environment to enable them effectively to execute their duties and responsibilities. This primarily includes support for EVP – Economic Development but also includes support and collaboration for activities regarding business development, project management, existing business (Business Retention and Expansion) and Talent. This role is also responsible for providing support to the various boards, councils and committees associated with the department.

KEY ACTIVITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Organizational

  • Organize the development of agendas and information for department meetings.
  • Lead the effort to formalize processes across departments.
  • Responsible for assembling information and create presentations for various committee and board meetings.
  • Responsible for the ‘on-boarding’ of new companies to the community from project management and business development activities.
  • Responsible for the transition for new companies to the community to the membership team.
  • Responsible for the coordination and communication between the economic development team and marketing/communication team for ‘storytelling’.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Business Development

  • Logistics (registration, travel, events, etc…) and coordination for trade shows, consultant events, strategic market visits, targeted proposals and other business development activities.
  • Coordination and management of third-party vendors to business development activities (meeting setting, lead generation software, consultants, etc…).
  • Responsible for setting meetings and logistics for companies/projects identified through various sources.
  • Assisting in the preparation of business development staff for company/project meetings.

Existing Business

  • Work with VP – Existing Business to develop a framework to increase interview counts to 2,000 through the work of staff, membership and other volunteers.
  • Identify ‘success stories’, catalog and work with the marketing/communications team to develop message.

Talent

  • Work with VP – Existing Business to expand relationships with other regional ISDs and connecting them into the Talent program.
  • Work with VP – Existing Business to build relationships with outside organizations with education/talent initiatives and connecting them into the Talent program.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • College diploma preferred.
  • Must have good customer service and communication skills.
  • Must have excellent organizational and computer skills.
  • Requires good interpersonal skills.

DECISION-MAKING AND ACTION TAKING:

  • Requires the ability to work with all levels of stakeholder and staff.
  • Requires making decisions regarding matters that are beyond written procedures and determine procedures for major activities.
  • Must be able to follow directions and work with the team to address the needs of the Chamber.
  • Must be able to make independent judgments and decisions of both a tactical and strategic nature and be capable of directing and operating events.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Some domestic travel.
  • Moderate noise level.
  • Some lifting of boxes of up to 25 pounds.
  • Long periods of sitting.
  • Early morning meetings and evening functions.
