Tell us about yourself.
My name is Sam or Sammie (unless you’re my grandma, then I’m Samantha). I’m a Fort Worth native, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of North Texas. I’m a Creative Specialist at the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. A typical workday can include creating infographics for a presentation, putting together our weekly newsletters, and attending networking events to get a few photos for our online gallery. The job is anything but mundane, and I love it!
How do you spend your free time?
I love to read and write! I’m a true crime junkie, but I’m trying to venture out. I also blog in my spare time – when I have a funny story I just have to share. In typical millennial fashion, my weekends are spent brunching, going to yoga and trying out the latest breweries in Fort Worth.
What drew you to the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce?
I actually spent three and a half years as a Digital Commerce Assistant at a Credit Union before this. And while I loved the job itself, I wasn’t exactly passionate about financial services. I knew I loved marketing and digital media. But I didn’t know who I wanted to do it for. I’m passionate about Fort Worth and all it has to offer. It was just a perfect match.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
The freedom to create! There’s nothing better than hearing “Go for it” when you have an idea. The Chamber gives me creative freedom and it’s really encouraging. One day I’m designing an infographic about Education and Workforce in Fort Worth and the next I’m creating a logo for Tarrant County Days at the Capitol. It’s always interesting and there’s never a shortage of projects.
What are some of your proudest moments?
I was the first in my family to earn a college degree – and I did it in 3 years!
My fiancé and I finally became homeowners last year – apartment living isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Landing the job at the chamber, of course!
