Whether on freeways or city streets, motorists encounter zillions of orange cones and sand bag-anchored signs redirecting traffic around construction, lane closures, special events and other potential hazards encountered by travelers.
A growing number and placement of such traffic control devices are placed by Fort Worth-based Site Barricades founded by managing partners Jeff Schuessler and Ben Wallace – rising stars in a niche market created by massive regional infrastructure improvements that will continue well into the future.
Launched in 2014, Site Barricades has firmly established itself against major competition, winning contracts with clients such as Sundance Square Management, Texas Christian University and the Fort Worth Police Department.
The company’s achievements and rapid growth have earned the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce 2018 Small Business of the Year (SBOY) Award in the Emerging Business category.
“Our customers do not concern themselves with who manufactures our cones or what type of adhesive is used to apply the reflective material,” Schuessler said in Site Barricades’ SBOY application. “They want service, and service is what they get.”
With around 25 employees, the company is on call 24/7 with most of its business flowing from equipment and barricade rentals. But, Schuessler said in the application, “We like to be different.”
Two major differences set Site Barricades apart from competitors – employees who go the extra mile for customers and the company’s computer-aided software that allows, at no cost, in-house design of traffic control plans needed for customers to obtain permits and city approval.
Site Barricades’ community involvement includes contributing to a number of charities, including the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, and the Veteran Patriot House at Presbyterian Night Shelter.
Schuessler, a United States Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq, supports the Gladney Center for Adoption as a board member and donor.
