Amid the ongoing rollout of the Affordable Care Act, the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce is preparing to offer its members some help with employee health benefits.

The organization will announce today two new health insurance plans for members. It’s the first time in its 131-year history that the chamber has offered health insurance alternatives to members, and it said it will become the largest chamber in North Texas to do so.

The chamber said nearly 80 percent of its members currently offer employee health benefits, but are struggling with rising costs. One of the plans is aimed at larger, self-insured companies, and the other uses a national co-op, which is a new type of not-for-profit health insurer created by the Affordable Care Act.

The insurance programs will be presented at the chamber’s annual healthcare summit at the Cendera Center at 3600 Benbrook Highway.
