Small Business Development Program Update

August 13, 2025

Following the Fort Worth City Council’s vote to restructure its small business support programs—including the suspension of certain DEI initiatives—the Fort Worth Chamber reaffirms its commitment to a strong local business climate and the long-term success of Fort Worth’s small business community.

“As the leading voice for business in Fort Worth, the Chamber is focused on ensuring businesses of all sizes have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed,” said Steve Montgomery, President and CEO of the Fort Worth Chamber. “We recognize the importance of small businesses to our economy and remain committed to supporting their growth and sustainability.”

The Chamber joined the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber and the Fort Worth Metropolitan Black Chamber at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting to offer its support in shaping and implementing a new small business enterprise assistance program. While details of the program are still being finalized, the Fort Worth Chamber is prepared to bring key strengths to the effort, including:

  • Strategic convening power to help connect small businesses and subcontractors with larger contracting opportunities through targeted workshops and engagement forums;
  • Extensive communication platforms to support broad outreach and awareness of available city resources and contracting opportunities;
  • Succession planning and business retention support to help local business owners plan for the future and ensure long-term community investment.

“Small businesses are vital to Fort Worth’s continued economic momentum,” Montgomery added. “The Chamber will continue to collaborate with our partners to ensure this new program is effective, accessible, and positioned to support the needs of Fort Worth’s small business community.”
