Building Strong Networks: A Key to Business Success

October 4, 2023

October 6, 2023

As the Chamber continues to expand its efforts in business retention and expansion, the importance of networks becomes increasingly evident. Whether they are committee members, area board representatives, or individuals passionate about fostering professional relationships, their networks play a pivotal role in driving positive change.

The Business Retention and Expansion Committee members, in collaboration with Area Board members, leverage their extensive networks to gain insights into the challenges faced by local businesses. Through these connections, real-world issues like Renfro Foods struggling with truck maneuverability at their loading docks were discovered. Thanks to a dedicated volunteer, a solution was identified – applying for a no-parking zone. Today, no-parking signs stand as a testament to the power of networking and collaboration.

Networking is the lifeblood of professional growth. It opens doors to new opportunities, facilitates idea exchange, and fosters best practices. As the Area Boards collect feedback from companies, they are excited to launch new networking groups. Those interested in leading or co-leading one of these groups are encouraged to reach out to Netty Matthews. Seasoned leaders are essential to the success of these endeavors.

However, it's crucial to remember that networking isn't about selling; it's about helping others meet their needs and solve problems. Effective networkers focus on creating win-win relationships, where both parties benefit from the interaction. This approach ensures that follow-up contacts are eagerly anticipated, as each conversation provides value.

Trish Moore, Broker Associate/Owner of Local Realty Agency and co-lead for the South Area Small Business Owners Networking Group, says “I’ve always looked at business networking as “non-transactional.” Ultimately, networking groups bring people together, allow them to find commonality and synergy, and lay the foundation for everybody to create and maintain relationships that surpass routing business needs, but develop into long-term, deeper, meaningful relationships that can last a lifetime.”

Networks are not just essential; they are the backbone of the business community. By leveraging connections, individuals can collectively overcome challenges, seize new opportunities, and foster relationships to fuel growth and success.
