There are 17 propositions on the ballot on November 4, including the special election for Senate District 9, which encompasses Fort Worth and much of Tarrant County.
Texas voters have the opportunity to make major investments in Texas’ workforce, infrastructure, and provide tax relief for businesses and individuals.
Voters will have the opportunity to build the future workforce of Texas through Proposition 1. This amendment makes an investment in several workforce training funds that support advanced and emerging industries that require a high-skilled workforce. With the arrival of major manufacturing facilities and data centers, ensuring Texas’ training capacity meets workforce demands is critical to our economic success.
Through Proposition 4, Texans could dedicate $1 billion annually – without any tax increase – to support the Texas Water Fund for 20 years using existing sales tax revenue. Texas has experienced rapid economic and population growth, requiring a long-term investment in water infrastructure and supply to optimize reliability. During the 89th legislative session, the Fort Worth Chamber supported the legislature’s priority to make a Texas-sized investment in water. Proposition 4 is the constitutional amendment as a result of HJR 7that was unanimously approved by the legislature. Proposition 4 is a step towards ensuring a safer and more reliable water supply for everyone, and the Chamber fully supports this initiative.
Competitiveness was a key theme of the 89th legislative session, with a strong focus on policies to attract new investment and protect existing property assets. Propositions 2, 6, and 8 on the ballot will provide certainty to businesses and individuals that their investment and property won’t incur additional taxes upon trade, inheritance, or death. These pro-growth amendments will allow Texans to keep more of their hard-earned money. For small businesses, Proposition 9 would increase the business personal property tax exemption to $125,000, delivering savings to business owners that keep inventory on their property.
Pending voter approval, these propositions and others on the ballot, could have a significant impact on the future of business.
