Delegation of 150 Leaders Meet Tarrant County Legislators in Austin

Over the course of two days earlier this month, 150 business leaders and city elected officials convened in Austin to advocate for their legislative priorities and to hear from their state representatives and senators as they gathered at the State’s Capitol for the 89th Legislative Session.

The delegation had the unique opportunity to engage with state elected officials, city council, county commissioners, and other business leaders in Tarrant County all in one room. Attendees could ask questions and make requests; some also scheduled separate one-on-one meetings with the legislators or their staff.

Lawmakers highlighted priorities that are top of mind, and it became clear that a handful of key policy issues will continue to be debated this session: water, infrastructure, economic development, education and workforce preparedness. Several legislators also shared new bills they were intending to introduce – giving insight into what new policies our local elected officials are working on that could impact our community.

On the second day, the delegation was honored to hear from Speaker Dustin Burrows at a breakfast held at the beautiful Austin Club. Back at the Capitol, attendees gathered in the historic Texas Supreme Court chambers to hear from Tarrant County’s own Secretary of State, Jane Nelson, in addition to representatives from the Comptroller’s office and the Texas Film Commission.

To wrap up a successful visit, senators honored the delegation’s trip to Austin on the Senate Floor with the introduction of Senate Resolution 45 that included special remarks by Senators Hancock, Birdwell, Parker, West, and King.

Tarrant County Days is jointly organized by the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce. Thank you to all the Chambers that joined us in Austin: Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, H.E.B. Chamber of Commerce, Greater Keller Chamber of Commerce, Mansfield Chamber of Commerce and the Northeast Tarrant Chamber of Commerce.
