Quarles Lumber Co. | 60 Years of Partnership, Over a Century of Impact

January 21, 2026

This January, Quarles Lumber Co. proudly marks 60 years as a trusted member of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. Since joining the Chamber in 1966—building on a legacy that began in 1901 when John Emerson Quarles founded John E. Quarles Lumber Co.—the company has remained a cornerstone of Fort Worth’s building community, supplying high-quality materials and dependable service to contractors, builders, and homeowners.

Quarles’ deep roots in Fort Worth have been shaped by resilience and strong community relationships. During the Great Depression, the company lost all of its line yards, yet Mr. Quarles chose to preserve and relocate the Fort Worth lumberyard to its current site in 1933. That decision reflected both confidence in the city’s future and the community’s trust in the family business. As Fort Worth grew and demand for new homes and development increased, Quarles’ engagement with the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce helped strengthen relationships with customers, vendors, suppliers, and civic partners.

John E. Quarles led the company until his death in 1956, when leadership passed to his son-in-law, Hosmer B. Stuck, and daughter, Nancy Quarles Stuck. Together, they continued the company’s commitment to service and community involvement. Following Mr. Stuck’s death in 1979, Nancy Quarles Stuck led the business until 2012, guiding the company through decades of change while preserving its core values.

Over the years, Quarles has weathered significant challenges, including the Great Depression, World War II, and a devastating fire in 1972 that destroyed its facility at 1801 Park Place Avenue. Each time, the company rebuilt and moved forward. Today, Quarles Lumber provides building materials for new home construction and remodeling, continuing to serve Fort Worth’s evolving needs. In 1988, the company expanded its offerings with the opening of Quarles Window Center, extending its reach across the region.

While the company is no longer family-owned, Quarles’ leadership remains guided by the same principles that shaped its early success: strong relationships, community commitment, and dependable service. These values closely align with its longstanding partnership with the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce.

As noted on the company’s website, “Our founder, John E. Quarles, would be proud that the company he originated in 1901 continues to thrive.” For more than six decades, the Chamber has supported Quarles through advocacy, connection, and growth—resources that have reinforced the company’s dedication to quality, service, and lasting local relationships. Quarles Lumber is more than a supplier of building products; it is a part of Fort Worth’s business legacy.
