Economic Impact Forum Recap: Innovation Driving Healthcare Expansion in Fort Worth

April 29, 2026

Fort Worth’s growth is fueling a new era in healthcare—one where innovation and expansion work together to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving community.

At today’s Economic Impact Forum, leaders across life sciences and healthcare made one thing clear: extraordinary care starts with innovation—and scales through intentional investment.

Innovation Starts with Solving Real Problems

The life sciences innovation panel emphasized that many breakthroughs begin inside hospital walls.

One panelist shared how a single operational challenge led to a solution that ultimately became a scalable company—proving innovation doesn’t require a perfect plan, just a real problem and the right collaborators.

Fort Worth is building the ecosystem to support that journey, with incubators, research institutions, and investors working together to move ideas from concept to commercialization. These collaborative environments are already producing results, including startups that have grown into major employers and economic drivers.

Expansion Is About More Than Capacity

As innovation grows, so must the systems that deliver it.

Healthcare leaders shared how major expansions across Fort Worth are addressing both rising demand and evolving care models

  • Texas Health Resources is adding hundreds of beds to improve access and reduce emergency department strain.
  • JPS Health Network is expanding with a focus on community need, increasing access for underserved populations.
  • Cook Children’s is investing $1.3 billion to expand pediatric care across the region.

These investments ensure patients receive “the right care…at the right time, in the right place.”

A New Model of Healthcare Delivery

Panelists also challenged the idea that growth is only physical.

With most care happening outside hospital walls, systems are investing in the following:

  • Virtual care and digital tools
  • Remote patient monitoring
  • Community-based access points

This shift reflects a broader goal: making healthcare more accessible, efficient, and patient-centered.

Workforce Fuels the Entire Pipeline

Both panels underscored that innovation and expansion depend on people.

From specialized clinicians to critical support roles, workforce shortages remain a challenge—requiring stronger partnerships with schools, training programs, and community organizations.

As one leader noted, the industry must prepare for a future where “the healthcare worker of today will not be the healthcare worker of tomorrow.”

The Chamber’s Role

The Fort Worth Chamber is proud to convene these conversations—advancing collaboration around workforce, infrastructure, and business growth.

By bringing leaders together, the Chamber helps ensure Fort Worth remains a pro-business environment where innovation thrives, and communities benefit.
