A NEW DAY AT THE FWC: EMBRACING CHANGE WITH BUSINESS ADVOCACY

January 19, 2024

A LEGACY OF SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESS

For more than 140 years, the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce (FWC) has promoted local business interests, from tackling regulations to navigating recessions. The establishment of the Fort Worth Economic Development Partnership marks a renewed commitment by the Fort Worth Chamber to be the local business community's voice, focusing on problem-solving and leveraging connections for the benefit of businesses across the region.

The FWC's long history of supporting local businesses has seen various terminologies and approaches, most recently, Business Retention and Expansion. While the term "Business Retention and Expansion" (BRE) has been a standard in the industry, it does not entirely capture the full scope of challenges and services the FWC provides for its members.

Acknowledging this, the FWC is adopting "Business Advocacy" as the new term to represent its continuous efforts. This change not only aligns with the evolving needs of the business community but also more accurately reflects the Chamber's role and responsibility to the business community. Business Advocacy encompasses the FWC's dedication to aligning resources, addressing problems, and fostering a thriving business environment.

A GEOGRAPHICAL APPROACH

Under the umbrella of Business Advocacy, the Area Council Boards, serving North, South, East, West, and Central areas of Fort Worth, will continue their pivotal role. These Boards are charged with implementing Business Advocacy efforts geographically, engaging area businesses to identify challenges, opportunities, and obstacles, ensuring their growth and success in Fort Worth.

2024 PRIORITIES AND GOALS

The Boards are committed to:

  • Connecting with as many companies as possible for business advocacy within their geographic areas.
  • Developing networking groups focusing on leads, topics, and mastermind conversations, particularly benefiting small businesses.
  • Giving a voice to business owners in their specific areas.
  • Assisting in onboarding new companies to Fort Worth.

In 2024, each Board is expected to:

  • Host two Business Walks.
  • Achieve a total goal of 150 BRE conversations.
  • Establish a business owners networking group.
  • Organize one Office Hours event.
  • Host and organize the Small Business Appreciation Walk during Small Business Week.
  • Promote applications for the Small Business of the Year Award.
  • Coordinate and partner with other Fort Worth business organizations.

The Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce invites you to be part of this exciting new chapter. If you are driven to contribute to the growth and success of Fort Worth's business community, consider serving as an Area Council Board member.
